New brew room in the works.

I realized that after running all the lines and then opening the box for the flush. Not that bad since the back wall is still open on the other side and my main water line is about 2 feet away so I can just redo it. I left all the backs of the outer walls open until everything is up and...

    The Ringing Corny Keg

same here I suspect it's the gas in tube since it only happens on some kegs and not all of mine. I never checked to see what tube is in which keg making the noise but I assume it would probably be the red plastic ones since they have a smaller diameter and the fast moving gas may cause a...

    Forcing Carbonation in Corny Keg?

Lots of recent threads on this lately and everyone has an opinion on to force or not and those in the not category seem to passionately hate it. I forced dozens of kegs with no issues other than getting the carbonation to level out which I don’t really mind but it is more work. I have however...

    PBW each bottle?

I rinse after use and then put them in the dirty bottle box for later. Before bottling I then soak in one-step, PBW or any other cleaner and use bottle brush to scrub the inside and rinse, then sanitize immediately before filling with a acid base sanitizer. Just rinsing out may not remove yeast...

    LHBS Grain Crush & Efficiency

My local HBS still uses a corona hand mill! Not only that but they want you to grind it yourself! Imaging buying grain for a 10 gallon batch and then being told the mill is in back see you in a few hours! :( I went and bought a barley mill.

    highly carbonated bottled beer

You really don’t want to use 4.5 oz for every beer. All beer/styles require different amounts of sugar to prime properly. Use one of the charts to determine the proper amount for your style next time. And IMO when I don’t bother with the charts and wing it stick with 4oz. Here is one chart but...

    Glass hates me!

I broke two floating thermometers on back to back batches and then two hydrometers in a month. I gave up on the glass thermometer and got and love my thermapen. I was lucky that they just cracked and nothing leaked out so my beers were ok but still when you hear that pop or crack it sends...

    chicago water

I usually use 1/2 distilled and the rest filtered with a charcoal filter then I use the EZ calculator to adjust. I have spoken to the manager at the Elmhurst pumping station and he said all the Chicago area water has chlorine in it not chloramines but this was when I started to brew. This may or...

9.5-10.5% I will check my notes I saved that on my pc but I know it's about 10%. It's water once you have the 120! Drinking a Belgian honey ale now. Only about 80% carbonated but very nice.

    Order not shipped

AHS takes forever to ship if you use the flat rate or free shipping for $100+ orders which is why I try to avoid them. Up to nine business days per the site which = nice warm yeast. Good selection and prices just poor shipping IMO.

Thhis is the same video that I used when I first started using decoctions and my beers turned out very well. I also brewed my first decoction outside in my garage while it was snowing so it was just the video which must have helped!
