    Saran film

How long are you soaking them? I also noticed that if you let something soak overnight in Starsan it has a slimy coating. But just doing a soak for a few minutes I don’t have any issues besides the normal film. Starsan is supposed to leave a protecting film behind but it seems that too long of a...

Blichmann Beer Gun - Bottling for Comps - Raise PSI?

Same here, I will bump it up 2 psi the day before. Never really tested it since I always did it this way from day one. But like they say if it works don’t mess with it! And no one ever said any of my beers bottles using the gun were under carbonated so I guess it works! Or at least it makes me...

    What happened?????

1.050 to 1.019 doesn’t seem right. What was you FG supposed to be per the recipe? Seems like fermentation stalled out and you had too much leftover sugar and with the carb tabs you are now over carbonated. You should have tried to get the fermentation going again to finish up before bottling. I...

    Outdoor propane burner & pot

I do 13 gallon batches and can get about 3 batches I would say out of a tank depending on conditions boil time and total boil volume. It also depends on your pot size and how high you crank it. I have a 20 gallon Blichmann so it’s a wide pot and I still only turn it up about ½-3/4 the way to get...

Mix Oregon Puree with water before racking?

Just dump it in and rack onto it. The puree is pretty thin, I used the cherry many times in the past with my stouts and it mixes completely with just the force of the beer being transferred.

    Outdoor propane burner & pot

I have one that looks just like it that I started out with. They work fine however they eat gas like Charlie bangs 7g rocks. Very inefficient. Mine did come with an automatic shut off and looking at the pic I would say that big black box with a knob is also a shutoff. That sucks if you forget...

What is up with Winemakers superiority to brewers?

One of my local HBS has a wine guy working with them who is sometimes the only one in the store so you will be forced to speak with him. Anytime you ask him a beer related question he gives you a smartass reply that is worthless. Now I understand that he’s not a beer kind of guy but still why...

    Southern Tier Pumking Clone??

Mine has been in secondary for a while and with the crystalized ginger that I used the Pumpking taste is there but no way near the level of the real Pumpking. I would have to agree that they are using some sort of extract.

    Chocolate Cherry Stout question

Last batch of nibs I got and soaked in Vodka still went funky on me. Beer turned out fine but the secondary got a bit furry! I brewed a second chocolate stout soon after and soaked the nibs for that one in Everclear 191 proof and no issues with the nibs.

    Bowed front to MLT

So the inner and outer layer of the cooler separated? If so I would just use some low expanding spray foam to fill it. As long as the interior of the cooler is intact that should work just fine.

    10 gallon batches

Before I had my conical and brewed 10 gallons split between 2 buckets I did sometimes have slight differences when I kegged them. Most likely it was due to more trub getting into the 1st bucket vs. the 2nd or more volume in one. Or possible the markings in my yeast flask are were not very...
