    Partial mash and recipe

I also have a question about a partial mash recipe. Not so much the specifics, but the ingredients. I found a partial mash recipe for something called Piggish IPA. The directions are good for a beginner like me. What I wanted to ask is whether what I plan to buy for this recipe is close or same...

    Northern Brewer DEAD RINGER IPA

A question: I ended up Being short some on volume in the primary fermenter (maybe half a gallon). Is it too late to bring up to the 5 gallon volume or can it be done when transferring to secondary ? My stupid mistake. Has Been in primary for three days, active fermentation

    Northern Brewer DEAD RINGER IPA

    I see, makes sense. Thanks.

    Northern Brewer DEAD RINGER IPA

That is very helpful thank you. In that light, if one decides to use 2 packs of dry yeast for a 5 gallon batch, is that pitching too much yeast? I know there are yeast calculators out there, but asking as a rule of thumb

    Northern Brewer DEAD RINGER IPA

Thank you for the clarification. I was not aware of the difference for liquid and dry yeast. I have used dry yeast to this point, since I am still learning.

    Northern Brewer DEAD RINGER IPA

Well it seems many of you have opinions on the Dead Ringer recipe. Must be a very popular beer to brew. There are the instructions provided of course (for new brewers such as myself), then there are the suggestions from more experienced brewers on this recipe. I appreciate those suggestions.

    Brewing Dead Ringer IPA

So since I have a 10 gallon kettle and a wort chiller, I can do a full volume (5 gallon) boil on this recipe and get same results?

NB Chinook IPA tastes like wheat

it is tasty enough to drink, true. And I have many bottles.

NB Chinook IPA tastes like wheat

I tried to keep it at that temp for primary and secondary. But as you also pointed out, I use what they give me for yeast, and have not really experimented with other types of yeast. There are so many out there. By the way, your edit of the recipe for the True brew red ale worked well! Still...

NB Chinook IPA tastes like wheat

I followed the NB directions on this recipe. I agree, it is a bitter tasting IPA. However, I have a question about this recipe. It is about bringing the volume up to 5 gallons with water. I think this caused the beer to actually be on the watery side (some lack of body). I think this also is the...

What to do with unused hops?

Thanks for the advice! Seems everyone wants those ruined hops! :D

What to do with unused hops?

I did not think to put my unused hops in the freezer. I have some that have been in my refrigerator in ziploc bags for about a month. Should they be tossed out or is there still a chance to preserve them in the freezer?

Q's about True Brew Red Ale kit

It is now two weeks in the primary fermenter. I need to take another hydrometer reading , compare it to the reading taken at the beginning, then wait a few days and take another reading to see if fermentation is done? Then I can move to the bottling stage. I think that is correct

    Best Carbonation Methods

I see this thread is old, but I am wondering: one obviously speeds up the process by doing a direct carbonation of the batch vs bottle conditioning. And also this will require some more $$ for equipment. Besides the time advantage, are there any other advantages? I am considering moving away...

    Bottle Carbonation

I had the same problem with the same beer. Based on this I will just let the bottles sit.

    lagering

So is the idea of using no secondary just for lagers/pilsners? I have been using a secondary fermentation vessel (glass carboy) for the IPAs I have been brewing. I have not tried a lager recipe yet. Just asking thanks.

    Anyone ever individual bottle prime?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but as a source of just CO2, would using seltzer water be a viable option? Especially if it is a heavier beer like porter. Or will that just ruin the taste? I guess I have to experiment with that or using the mass produced no-taste lite beers to get some...
