you could probably get a 3500 watt element and just plug it in to 220v and let it go for a rolling boil, i have a 5500 w element with a ssr and a controler and it cycles on and off due to the element being over sized.

i have experimented with electric brewing and found the diameter of the boil pot makes a big difference i started with a sanke keg with a 5500 watt element, the problem with the keg is the diameter is to wide and the heat was not concentrated in the middle of the pot so the heat disapated faster...

i was thinking of opening a brew store so it is interesting to read of your experience i think i will just brew and try to learn as much as possible for now then maybe when i retire i will give it a second look.
