    first 5 gallon was hectic

^^This is the way^^^ I run my bottles through the sanitize cycle the night before bottling. After I remove them and sanitize them with star-san, I have a nice clean area to bottle in. When done, just run the dishwasher again when full, and the mess is gone....

    MASH EFFICIENCY

The first question I would ask is did you mill your own grains or buy them milled from the LHBS? You will NEVER be consistent with someone else doing the milling....

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Not sure if there are enough Maltzilla users to warrant it's own thread.....although it is a bit off topic here.....

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I'd appreciate knowing your gap setting. I have been air blasting mine everytime when I'm done with it, mostly because I mill on the back porch and don't want to bring all that dust in the house when I bring everything in....

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Yep, this brew was at 74%. I would gladly go down to 70% or even 65% as long as it was consistent and I could get a good flow for recirculation. I'll just keep opening up the gap one click at a time until I get there.....

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Yep. Don't really measure them though, just throw a couple of handfuls in every time after I stop pouring grain in to stir it up a bit. This batch had probably a quarter to a third of a pound....

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I've been brewing on a 35l 3.1.1 for about a year now, and have always wondered what the temperature in the malt pipe was in relation to the set temperature on the controller. I have previously checked the calibration on my controller using plain water in the unit and two other thermometers I...

Quick review on MaltZilla and a request

Did another 5 gallons this morning and decided to update. I crushed the grain for this one at one "click" more open than the kegland recommended 1.5mm. The malt bill was around 12.5 pounds and it all fit in the hopper. I took around 7 minutes to process without a hitch. This mash was still...

    Brewzilla Gen4 Discussion/Tips Talk

Basic physics tells me the bulge should be up to channel the downward force towards the edges and increase the diameter of the plate when it flexes, whereas bulge down would channel towards the center and with flex in the plate, would cause a loss of diameter in the plate and allow it to fall...

Quick review on MaltZilla and a request

Yep, I added rice hulls. I think that I will be able to adjust my milling process to get consistent (that's the prime goal) mash efficiencies in the 70-75% range(not as important, but desirable) with good flow through the grain bed. It'll just take me a few runs to get it figured out. Buying...

Quick review on MaltZilla and a request

Though I would update this once more after brewing this morning. @hotbeer I am using a Brewzilla and using the malt pipe as well as the top screen. Last night crushing the grain for this mornings batch, I initially set the crush for one notch (that's all I can think of to call it, it is an...

What to do with old, unused grain

If you know someone with chickens, I'm sure they would trade you some eggs for it. If you feed the birds in a feeder, just put some in there with the other seeds...

How long should I wait before bottling after I have added the priming solution ?

I bottle everything. I boil my sugar in about a cup and half of water, let it cool. I gently pour it into my bottling bucket just after I have started to drain the beer into the bottling bucket with my hose curled around the outer edge on the bottom to force a whirlpool into the beer as it...

Costco selling Brewing Gear and Extract Kits??

Costco was where I got my first exposure to brewing. They were having a sale on a 1 Gal Craft a Brew kit and I decided, what the hell, let's give it a try. Was right around 30 buck if I remember correctly (about 10 years ago)....

    Yeast fermentation temps

If your controller will account for heat as well as cooling, you might look at something like this: FermoTemp® - Electric Fermentation Heat Wrap I use one of those in my fridge (just loosely placed around the fermentation jug, and my controller will keep my temp within 1-2 degrees of where I...

    Yeast fermentation temps

I have used the Voss a couple of times, and likely will again, as to my tastebuds, it lends kind of a orangey, citrusey note to the beer. It may be different for you, and as well, my Voss beer NEVER clear, they stay hazy. Once again, you may find it to be different....
