    Week in the Fridge

If you leave your beer to fully condition/carb prior to putting it in the fridge it does nothing to the beer except help settle the remaining particles and clear it. Co2 absorption won't be modified if the bottle is already carbed and the yeast has already eaten all the additional sugars you...

Leaving the hops in during fermentation

I have never strained the hops from my wort post-boil. I have also only used pellet hops.

    My first brew: Kitchen notes

Follow Revvy's post. :) https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bottling-tips-homebrewer-94812/ And put a towel down under your bottling area. You will drip, there is no getting around it! I promise it sounds much more intimidating than it actually is.

How to take the next step - expansion

These are 15 bucks. http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brewing/brewing-equipment/fermenting-equipment/6-5-gallon-fermenting-bucket.html I believe that comes with a lid and grommet. I have 3 of those, and a single 6.5 gallon glass carboy. And a couple of 5 gal. ones I've picked up off...

How long should i bottle condition

Take what I say here with a grain of salt, as I've only done 5 batches so far. But, three weeks minimum for bottle conditioning. If you really want to try them at 1, 2 & then 3 weeks you can, but you're going to A.) waste your beer and B.) Give your self unnecessary worry. My suggestion...

I confess. Have never done a gravity reading.

Screw the OG or the FG, I just want an excuse to drink it! I'm always dieing to know what it tastes like. Pre-ferment and pre-bottle! :tank:

Your mash-tun: false bottom or manifold?

SS screen in mine. Because it was cheap and easy. And I was sick of burning up dremel wheels cutting slots in my manifold.

You load 16 tuns, what do you get?

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine I knew it wouldn't skunk and I didn't wine I loaded sixteen tuns with number 2-row And SWMBO said "Well, a-bless my soul"

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I'm glad to hear that about the Mash. As for the burner... I got a bayou classic outdoor burner and a 32qt stainless steel pot for Christmas. This was my first time using it. I was getting a better boil on my electric stove with a ceramic pot in my previous batches. :(

Long batch sparge on first all grain

I did my first AG this weekend as well. Wish I'd read up more before doing it. I did not do the vorlauf step on my sparge. I did it on the original mash, before draining, but not when I dropped my sparge water in. I just poured in my sparge water, stirred it like crazy, and then drained...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Well, I brewed this yesterday. It was my very first AG brew session. I made the mistake of waiting till the last minute to cut slots in my manifold... big mistake. 4 dremel blades later, only had two pipes slotted. So I went and bought a stainless steel screen and 20 minutes later, boom...

    Oatmeal Stout Milk Oatmeal Stout

I believe the Lactose addition increases the trub since it is not fermentable. I had a very thick layer of trub in mine as well, but it came out great!

Simple Rules for Drinking My Homebrew

I don't have any beer snob friends that come to my house. I drink the home-brew and share if they ask for it. But a couple of my co-workers home brew. They have been invaluable. The Apfelwein I've made has been consumed en-mass by everyone I've shared it with. Good feed back to me is...

    Oatmeal Stout Milk Oatmeal Stout

I secondary'd this over 3 vanilla beans soaked in vanilla vodka, for 2 weeks. I just cracked open the first one last night. I had my wife pop a couple in the freezer and unfortunately, they both froze. So when I opened the bottles the ice cap slowly rose from the neck, foaming all over the...

Rookie needs help with stage 3 kegging/bottling

You could also check Craigslist in your area for anyone getting rid of extra bottles. That is the one thing you can almost always find on Craigslist, any day of the week. :) Especially if you only need a few of them. Or just have a poker party and invite a few friends over. Tell them...

    Kansas City Beer gas?

"Apexbrewwares.com is right down the street... stop by there when u get your bottle filled! Best lhbs in town. Great service and prices. (check the hours and shoot jeremy an email if u are going to m&h outside of apex business hours)" +1 to that. I buy from Apex myself. Good people, great...

    Who's Gonna Win Tonight...

Neither one of them deserve to be there. College National Championship is meaningless without a play-off! Play-off, play-off, play-off!

Intimidating brewing, sheesh (noob first post)

+1 to the wine-thief and the vinator. I did my first brew without both. Never again! P.S. - I DRANK my first fully self/home-brewed beer on Christmas Morning, as a present to myself! :) Pay attention to your fermentation temperature... "sticking it in a closet" did not work for me...

    Brewers best fermentation question..

I get to say this. Relax, have a home brew! Beer looks disgusting when it's fermenting. Every one is a little bit different, but none of them are going to look all shiny and clean like a glass of american lager while their fermenting. I promise. Your brew is fine. Stick it in a...
