    If you aren't going to sanitize the caps, why the fuss about sanitizing the bottles? I don't put my other equipment into a litter box so why should I sanitize any of it?

    I always see people recommending attaching a tube to a 3 piece airlock but there is no reason for it. All you are doing is increases your chances of a clog. Stick the tube right into the hole you would put the airlock in.

    You're right. You can't list everything tax pays for. I do ask that you list what expenses for which it makes sense to specifically require beer drinkers to pay for.

    In the recipe in the first post you mention 4 lbs DME and 4 lbs LME. You mention you substituted all with DME. Did you use 8 lbs DME or did you use less to compensate for the LME -> DME substitution?

    You can make a starter with however many cells you want. You can do this with dry or liquid yeast.

    I think maybe I'll do this but instead of pouring it back in, if I get enough of it I'll bottle it separate and see how it differs. Or maybe I'll just use fermcap. I knew about that stuff but I forgot about it's usefulness in the fermenter.

    With the added airlock you would not need any sanitizing solution in the blowoff container. I suppose I should have made this clear.
