Is the Bayou Classic KAB6 Too Much For A 5 Gallon Kettle?

I use this for a five gallon pot and have no problems on the boil. I run into problems steeping specialty grains though. Once I get to temp it will flame out when I reduce the flow to keep it at about 155. Other than it works fine. Does go thru a lot of propane. I get about 3.5 batches per tank.

    Midwest Supply v. Northern Brewer

I use both and have had good experiences with both. I find Midwests shipping costs to be high and sometimes it takes awhile to get an order filled but the one problem I had with an order was taken care of right away after a phone call. Northern has flat rate shipping which can save me about 12...

    Beer foams out of bottle

co2 does mix better at lower temps. I worked bottling soft drinks and we carbed and filled at about 35 degrees. If the temp would go up to over 45 the co2 volumes would drop. The co2 holds in suspension in liquid at a lower temp. At 2 hours of chilling the beer probably was still to warm for...

    First brew fermenting.... some questions

On my first brew I was sure I screwed up about everything you could possibly mess up. Turned out to be a really good pale ale. Since then I just follow my process from brew day to drinking day and everything works out fine. Being a worrywort can drive you crazy

    Heat Wave

+1 swamp cooler. It hit 109 here on fathers day, water in my cooler 63 degrees. Just keep your plastic ice bottles swapped out regularly and its no problem. I also carbonate in a rubbermaid container that i use frozen bottles in to keep the temp around 70 degrees for at least the first week...

    Cream Ale

If you like the cream ale you might want to try Aussie Light Ale from Midwest. I just finished polishing off the last of it and ordered another. It's really smooth tasting and great for the summertime.

    Cream Ale

I use about 1/3 of my extract from the beginning and add the rest the last 15 minutes. Keeps the color lighter. I've read some people add the rest after flameout but I've never tried that.

Sterilised bottled... How long do they last?

I worked bottling soft drinks and water and the bottles came from the plant just covered. All we did was rinse them before filling. Water is very easily contaminated but as long as they are completely clean and santized do you really think they could get growth in them overnight. I may be wrong...

New England gal looking to brew

welcome from an ex-nutmeg stater. Like has been mentioned and also in all the infor on beginning brewing a good basic kit is all you really need to make great beer. I'm only on my 5th batch and find it really interesting as I'm sure you will since you've developed a taste for the good stuff. You...

Sterilised bottled... How long do they last?

I use put them in cases, cover with cling wrap and the tape down the cover. Nothing can get in so if they are clean and sanitized nothing can grow

Sterilised bottled... How long do they last?

keep them covered tightly and they should be fine for a day. I always sanitize bottles the day before I bottle into them.

    need a new bottle capper

I use the super agata as well and it makes a world of difference on bottling day. I secured it to my work bench and it really shortens the bottling time. That said, if you have a good routine for bottling set out the lever capper works fine as well. I just find the bench capper easier to use. I...

Boiled my racking tube. No longer clear.

I buy my tubing at home depot and you can get food grade there, make sure you get that.

Boiled my racking tube. No longer clear.

I haven't meet any non-nerd brewers personally but I heard there was one out there somewhere.

    Northern Brewer

    Specialty grain steping question

I never thought of that but I would think if the water is 150ish it would permate throught all the grain and not work it's way from the out side in

    counter pression bottle filler

Not sure how breweries carbonate but I worked going on 30 years bottling soft drinks and the product is carbonated under pressure and chilled as well before the bottle filler. It's ready to drink as soon as it's filled. I'd imagine brewies do the same thing. Chilling reduces foaming while filling.

    bench capper

Finally got the capper to work right. I took out the magnet and spring and it crimps like I figured it should. I don't need the magnet because I but a cap on each bottle after filling and then cap, about 12 at a time. The magnet moved up pretty easily when I pushed with my finger but I needed...

    bench capper

That makes sense. I'll have to call and see if I can get the 26mm if this isn't one on it now. Thanks

    bench capper

I tried it like you said but no go. The thing I see with mine is it has a round capper head, not a bell shaped one. All the you tube how to's I looked at showed bell heads and that may be the problem. Had to use my wing lever capper to do the bottling.
