    Greetings from Finland!

Greetings back at ya from Texas. Never been to Finland but when I'm not drinking/brewing up alcohol, I collect guns and have quite a few Mosin Nagant M39 military bolt action rifles from Finland (bought out of Pat Burns extensive collection) . I have some B Barrels, some made at the Sako...

Dan, Thanks for that. I'm getting stuff together now for a BOMM. Could I use the QA23 in a BOMM?

    Bray's One Month Mead

I'm currently making a JAOM (my very first mead) but am getting stuff together for a BOMM and have a noob question about the ingredients. Can I substitue the same weight of Potassium bicarbonate for potassium carbonate? Thanks in advance.

Can you use already fermenting honey to make mead?

Thanks Dan. I'm going to try this tomorrow. I'll do the first one with the bread yeast, but will do the next batch with a wine yeast. I live in TX, the temp range inside is 60-80. Do you have any good wine yeast recomendations for this? I only have bread yeast and beer yeast on hand (Saf Ale...

Can you use already fermenting honey to make mead?

I have about 20 pounds of honey in a bucket that had too high of a water content and is starting to ferment (off gas, and foam a little). I want to use that to make mead so I don't waste it. I was going to use JAOM ( Joes ancient orange mead formula (using bread yeast) found on this site. My...

I have no idea which herbs he used. He said don't drink it because it was toxic and for external use only, I haven't practiced iron palm in years and now mostly just do Tai Chi regularly and practice my kung fu forms occasionally so as not to forget them. I did find this though (several various...

    Hello! I'm new

Howdy and welcome to the forum from Texas. I worked in South Korea on a project once in Seoul and also in a city called Yeosu right on the sea. Do a lot of people in South Korea make their own beer? I'm really new at making beer and am brewing my second batch. If you can't find the answer...

What came in the mail for you today?

Hout, thanks, I like that tree a lot. I filled it up with 90 bottles and was afraid it would tip but it was solid as a rock. Yep, I soak the bottles in TSP/hot water in sink, (to get the labels off) , clean with the bottle brush , rinse with clean water and stack on the tree to drip dry. The...

What came in the mail for you today?

"How To Brew" by John J. Palmer arrived in the mail today. I chose that as my gift when I joined the AHA (American Homebrewers Assn) for 1 year. BTW I like this forum (HBT) much better than the forum over there so I'm going to keep hanging out over here.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

This jar is what my Chinese mother in law used to make rice wine, and other fermented foods /drinks. Apparently the upside down bowl on top is the airlock (you fill the rim with water). I may try this.

This is so true. My sifu (kungfu teacher) showed me how to make "dit da jow" (hit hard wine- I think that may be cantonese) when I was doing iron palm/iron bell training many decades ago. It was a collection of herbs soaked in vodka that you would rub on your fists, forearms, shins, ribs, feet...

    A homemade yogurt thread

I just made my first batch of yogurt. Heated 1 qt. of milk to 180 F, then let cool to 115 F. Mixed in 3 tbs of store bought yogurt. Loaded jars and put them in a yogurt maker (water batch) set at 115F overnight. It came out really good. It was really easy and much cheaper (about 1/4 the price)...

Do you grow your own hops for making beer? If so, what kind of hops? I think they would grow well in Shandong since its about 36 degrees lattitude. Do you grow your own barley for making beer? I am trying to grow hops here but they aren't doing great because I'm too far south at about 30...

Shandong, yep I've been there. I liked Qingdao, and worked on a project near Jinan. Do you make baijou (rice wine) or grape wine or both? I really liked the commercial beer in China much better than the US. Apparently the Germans in the shanghai area had breweries and passed on the art way...

Hi Douban, welcome to the forum. What part of China are you from? I worked there extensively until late 2016, and still do remote consulting for some firms there. I worked mostly in Guangdong (Guangzhou, Dongguan, Jiangmen) , some in the Shanghai area. But out of all my travels there , I really...
