Hello from China!Ask me anything about Chinese craft beer

To Grow Hops that produce cones you need about 15 daylight hours on the longest day of the year , 120 days per year frost free, and 6-8 weeks of soil temperature < 40 F (4.4 C ). I would think Shandong would be OK for this (better than my location at 30.1 degrees lattitude). So far cascade does...

    What are you drinking now?

Little Rose Little IPA, 4.4 ABV, uses mosaic hops, pilsner malt and a super secret house yeast- brewed right up the street at Lone Pint Brewery. It's citrusy and hoppy, its pretty good. HBT on the puter screen in the background, beer sitting in the famous 'BEER CHEMISTRY" glass. It don't get any...

When I first got here last year as a newbie this place helped alot. I had bought lots of books and watched videos etc., but this site proved invaluble, I hate bothering ya'all so I research my question on here first and usually I find an answer and don't have to bother anyone. I came in here...

Just when you think you got it licked my malt price busting idea #2 got shot down in flames.:( I just got an email (read below) from the Malt company that they will not approve me as a customer. "Thank you for filling out an application to become a customer of ours. Please note that we are a...

    Home made gruit

Yep, my chinese mother in law used to make rice wine all the time but normally just let it ferment a day or two for boozey rice. It was sweet, not a lot of alcohol. Many years later I made one with the wine yeast they sell in the Chinese grocery store (red yeast rice type) and Thai rice and let...

morebeer increased their free shipping threshold

I didn't hit like on your post because I HATE when fellow brewers receive price increases. I just switched to all grain and the malt/ shipping cost is also killing me (really limiting the savings). I tried everything; quoting multiple suppliers, ordering 10 pound sacks, waiting for sales...

    Kegging vs Bottling

I picked up the idea of leaving it sit an hour or so in the bottling bucket from Palmer's 'How to Brew" book. It gives some extra settling time. I usually make a minimum of 6.5 gallons (it keeps going up, every batch), so there isnt alot of headspace in the bucket. I bet it isnt much more of an...

    Kegging vs Bottling

NC Brewer, I have a conical fermenter thats good at letting the dregs settle out. I also leave the bottling bucket set for an hour or two after I fill. I get a very slight settling of yeast, but you gotta look for it. In December and January it takes longer. I usually set them in the kitchen...

    Kegging vs Bottling

Ale guy...US 05 or Lutra depending upon my mood. I always bottle. I have everything to do kegs but I'm a bottler and most likely always will be. If you enter competitions; bottles are your friend unless you want to purchase a can seamer ($$$$$$). I buy other things with the savings (ammunition...

Hello from China!Ask me anything about Chinese craft beer

Did you ever try growing hops in China? Shandong is about 36.1 degrees lattitude which should be pretty good for growing hops. Can you get hops rhizomes (roots) in China? I know of a place in Romania that ships hops rhizomes to Hong Kong but I don't know if they ship to the rest of China.

    Hops growing in brazil

Thanks for that Northern Brewer. I always heard the C hops (names start with the letter C) did well as you approached the tropics. I'm trying to grow hops and they are fighting me every inch of the way. I'm about 30.1 latt (north of Houston TX right on the hairy edge of the range of hops) and...

You could do 5 gallon all grain but you would need at least a 10 gallon kettle (15 is better), on the deck on a propane burner if they let you do that on the deck. And a cooler for your pre heated sparge water. I did 5 gallon extract batches with a mini mash on the kitchen stove but I had to...

    Any Issues With Caps?

Yep, I have one of those Ferrari super cappers. Never had a problem but will start lubing (Thanks for the tip Day Tripper) , and capping, rotating 90 and capping again (Thanks for the tip Rish). Tips like these are why I visit here almost every day.

Welcome to the forum from a Texas Brewer. What kind of kits do you use? I started with LME kits but switched to DME after 5 kits due to the extract "twang" one gets with older extract. The DME increased my cost per beer about 0.1 cents but it stays fresh longer. When I switched to DME I started...
