Any ideas what is happening here?

I know it is the obvious thing to ask, but where they bit by some cold overnight weather? Seems strange that it looks like the really tender parts are what is affected, similar to cold temp die-off.

Why do I not use Centennials more often?

After Citra, Centennial is my favorite hop. Simco is up there as well. Was thinking of doing a batch using all three coming up.

    DIY Wort Chiller

Thanks for the replies, anyone that used a 5 gal bucket have final dimensions (mainly diameter) of the immersion chiller after you take it off the bucket and let it expand? Thanks again

    DIY Wort Chiller

Looks just fine. What did have to wrap it around? My first chiller I used a paint can, which worked great and gave me a nice looking chiller. But recently I got a much larger (wider) kettle, and will use the leftover 25' of copper to make a new chiller that has less coils above the wort level...

    holy hopslam batman!

Definitely could be some truth to this, but I personally have only had the last two batches and could easily tell between the two. Last batch was noticeably sweeter at finish. As far as Terripin never had Hopzilla, but have had their Hopsecutioner a few times and thought it was very good.

    holy hopslam batman!

Awesome to hear that you like Hopslam. Too bad you did not get to try last years, I and a lot of other people I talked to thought it was much better than this years. The most recent batch had less hop aroma and was a little sweeter than the previous Hopslam releases. Still a great DIPA though.

    1st brew/ Caribou Slobber

Wow, guess I never thought that it would be so difficult to just skip the thread as opposed taking the time to read a thread you had no interest in, post in it trying to be a jerk, then come back and respond to another poster after getting called out. Shockingly, it is possible to skip threads...

    Brew pot size

Just picked this up and love it. Nice 10 gal with a spigot. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Bayou-Classic-Stainless-Steel-10-Gallon-Spigot-Pot/6660146/product.html?cid=202290&kid=9553000357392&track=pspla&ef_id=UO7K@QAASBcwQSMw:20130410150821:s

    hop combos for next ipa

Love Simco and Citra together. Buddy also just brewed an IPA using Warrior (just at 60 min) and rest Mosaic and thought it was fantastic.

    Fresh Hops (Homegrown)

Not an expert on the subject but I have read that freezing hops before they are dried is not a very good practice because the crystallization damages the lupulin glands.

Trouble Picking a new brew pot

Do you think a 40 qt (10 gal) would be sufficient? Have seen great things about this one and should be receiving it in the mail in the next few days. Spigot would be nice to have. Runs $150 with no shipping...

    Who got some hopslam?

I got a six pack of it about a month ago, it was a very good (not great) DIPA. Only have had it once before, last years batch, and in my opinion this years was not quite as good. Less hoppy and a little more sweet with heavy malt compared to what I remember. Still a very good beer.

    New Brew Kettle

Thanks for all the great info everyone, was pretty sure I would be getting the 10 gal regardless. One last question, anyone have any opinions on the Bayou Classic I linked? Spigot looks halfway respectable with a threaded fitting on the end. Thanks again!

    New Brew Kettle

So I am looking for a new brew kettle, I do extract batches now but plan on making the switch to all grain within the next year. I was wondering what peoples opinions are on this kettle. I would like a spigot, and only plan on doing 5 gal batches (even when I step up to all grain). Would I...
