    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Captain Black is pretty good stuff. My go to is Boswell's Best from www.boswellpipes.com. Just got another shipment in. If I'm out of that, it's whatever random bin from the bulk jars at the cigar shop I'm in the mood for. I need to try this Virginia 1 I keep hearing about though.

All-Grain to Extract Conversion help (Goose Island Green Line Clone)

Either Windsor or S-04 will be fine. I actually think the English ale qualities of those yeasts will work well with Green Line, as it's supposed to have biscuit, toasty flavors.

Well... that just made me smile

I hear you. After opening and explaining all the workings of a Blichmann beer gun which I ready to drop 100 bucks on, my local homebrew shop owner asked what u was using it for. Explained, told me to save myself 100 bucks and not buy it. That's why I go there over ordering online, and will buy...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

You would have had a very different experience at the GIs in the city. I believe the ones in the airports are nothing more than a a generic bar with HMS Host employees. Sucks that it happens though, and people associate it with Goose Island.

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

That gift set is probably a great way to go. Just be careful, I bought a pipe in a set like that once and it came with a pre-carbonized layer that gave me a horrible acrid taste for a while. Retired that pipe. Corncobs are a great way to sample various tobaccos, and if you find you don't like...

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Yeah it's garage or basement smoking for me. She doesn't mind the smell so much, but doesn't want it getting into the furniture or walls. Oh well.

    Pipe smoking, a lost art.

Do you guys smoke inside? I find myself limited right now by the combination of Illinois weather and my wife's aversion to smoking inside.

Do you have to be a hop head to appreciate craft brews?

Hop forward means the dominant flavor is hops, malt forward means the dominant flavor is the malt. Hops add bitterness, and pine, grass, herbs, floral, and citrus flavors depending on the style/use. Think IPAs, American Pale ales, etc. Very hop forwards beers can taste almost perfumey. Malt...

If you've never played BioShock I wouldn't write it off as jut another FPS. The first one is in my top 3 games of all time and one of the first I point to when trying to make the point that games can be intelligent.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

My wife and I work at the same place, so we took ours to work. You can get some semi decent stuff, and it's better than the crap they have around the office. We have a French Press at home... Doesn't get much better than that in my book.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

You guys might want to read this before you decide not to buy from small craft brewers owned by larger companies. http://chicagoist.com/2012/04/16/the_honk_heard_round_the_world_goos.php#photo-1 Goose Island had been able to do some really awesome things since Ab InBev bought them. I've...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Yeah women never gawk at men. I've got a Facebook timeline from around the time that Magic Mike came out that would say otherwise... Note: I know guys are worse... Just saying :mug:

    drilling spigot hole

I have a PVC 90 degree elbow that I connect to the inside of the spigot on my bottling bucket so that I get a little extra beer into bottles and so I don't have to tip the bucket. Pre-drilled buckets have the hole drilled a little too low for this.

Transferring from Primary to Secondary fermenter

Dry hopping gives you the aroma of the hops but not bitterness. If the beers you like are very bitter, you need to add more hops at the very beginning of your boil, not during dry hopping.

Transferring from Primary to Secondary fermenter

Nope, you should be fine to to that. I'd venture to say that most homebrewers don't have spigots on their fermenters. Your other option is simply not to transfer to your carboy for secondary fermentation. It's really not needed*, you can just leave it in primary the whole time. *this is one...
