WLP 665 Flemish in Tart of Darkness

Thanks for the reply. In hind sight I should have either got the Sac. in the 665 woken up with a starter or given it a head start as you did with a neutral pitch. I got a Mason jar of thick W1056 slurry for a local brewery and pitch 60 ml in and it took off within a few hours and had steady...

Show us your element housings/pots. How did you do it?

Sorry, I had a flood in my basement and put everything from my kids play room in my brew room so I haven't been able to get pic of it. But I'll try to explain; I drill a small hole in the metal part on the element on the backside of the part that the o-ring go on. I put the end of the ground...

WLP 665 Flemish in Tart of Darkness

I realized that my question may have been better suited to White Labs then the forum’s as it’s their blend and I was looking for advice specifically relating to it, so I emailed them, there are some good tips to be found in it so I decided to post it below. There response was non-committal but...

WLP 665 Flemish in Tart of Darkness

After reading your responses I realize maybe my question was too vague and I assure you I plan on leaving it alone. Lunshbox was your oud bruin pitched with WLP 665? My question is in regards to WLP 665 vs. Roeselare. I've read that most people that pitched the Roeselare blend with the same OG...

WLP 665 Flemish in Tart of Darkness

Thanks for you input. You've had experience with this blend and I shouldn't expect any/more contribution from the Sac. then I've observed? You believe that given time the Brett and the bugs will be able to consume 20 or so more points, half of the fermentation? From what I've read I expected the...

WLP 665 Flemish in Tart of Darkness

This is my first sour beer, I’m not worryed with its progress but would like some feed back and opines on it. I was given the More Beer Tart of Darkness kit by a member of my club to brew because he didn’t realize that a sour beer would tie up his fermenter space 6-12 month (or more). He didn’t...

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

I'm sorry you are right: The (incorrect) item number on the OP is not the one I used. HPCP41F has Faston 0.250" termination and accept the more readily available available in 10 awg faston connections. ...and now I can no longer edit my OP... After you posted your question I now remember...

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

If you were using contacters then you'd need to make a back mounting plate of some sort. Part of the reason it all worked our so well for me is I used the door mounted 25a on-off-on selector switch from Granger. I have a detailed parts list that I can email as well. Just pm your email address.

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

Snapped a few low res phone camera shots of my control case (really not a panel I guess). I used PJ's "no contacter" diagram which I can email you if you don't know the one. Again this is from my phone... does everyone get that "application has crashed..." when they try to post images from the...

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

Thanks for the out of office reply J, sadly I'm back :) It took a little work but not much, 3 minutes is about right. I smoothed the in side of the plug body with a rotary tool's (like a Dermal) sanding drum but a round or half round file would work well. I did this just to smooth the in side...

Glass top stove and a 5 gallon brew pot

Not all glass top stoves are created equal :) I have a 50 amp Kenmore glass top and I have no problem getting 7 gallons of perboil volume up to a rolling boil at which point I dial back it down from 10 to 8. I'm sure that kettle and burner size has something to do with it as well. I have an 11w...

To those who have wanted Jean-Xavier Guinard's "Lambic" book

the 2nd one that was searchable was really hard on the eyes anyway. But if somebody wants one them or both I think I could attach the zip file and email it. pm if you're interested and I try.

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

You might be right now that I look around at other places but it's weird when I look at my Amazon order history I order HPCP41F1 from parts express and got the ones wanted... when I get to a pc and can edit my post I will. Sorry for the confusion.

    Switchcraft's plug and outlet option

Jbnla, Do you think that you received the non "fast-on" type? That's what it sounds like; could you post a photo? I agree shrink wrap should be used regardless.

    Gueuze project...Spelt? Yeast?

Have you put any thought into your mash regiment. I've not used unmalted spelt. I really like the malted thought, I wondered after I bought it if it was worth the extra $25 per sack and if it would have detectable different from malted wheat and it really does. I'd like to hear you thoughts on...

    Gueuze project...Spelt? Yeast?

I got for country malt group, our club does group buys. It's Best, I think it was expensive like a $55 for the sack. Are you near NYC? If so I'll hook you up w/ some.

    Gueuze project...Spelt? Yeast?

I think spelt will be great in a sour beer. My experience with spelt is that it is less gummy in the mash then wheat and definitely less then rye. It has a sharper flavor then wheat, all most like a few drops lemon juice in a glass of water (but not in a citrusy way). Got a 55# sack and brew a...

Maybe. In a different exchange (not with me) it seemed that this would the approach for all of 2013 and then he'd take it from there.
