    Basement Bar Build Thread!

Good eye! It's a magnetic one that always hangs crooked higher up the pipe, so I just moved it lower because it drove me nuts. I'm going to replace the single walled pipe this summer and when I do, I'm going to put in a probe thermometer at the proper height and a damper.

    Basement Bar Build Thread!

It definitely is pricey, but if you shop around you can find good brick at reasonable prices. What kills the cost of these bricks is shipping due to their heavy weight. I ordered the Koni brick from Home Depot and picked up in the store. It was roughly half the final cost of the initial brick I...

    Basement Bar Build Thread!

Thank you all! Pretty much all I drink (booze-wise) is beer. But, occasionally I'll enjoy a good single malt. Especially on a cool evening with a cigar. Mmmm.

The Brick is Koni thin brick. It's real brick made of the same stuff as regular brick, only made thinner. I used Loctite Power Grab caulking to put up the bricks, then used type S grout for grouting. Here are some pictures of the finished brick work: Enjoying a beer

    Show us your bar!!!!!

Thanks everyone! The color is there to stay. The wall color is matched to the grout color between the bricks. What we do need to do is hang up some pictures to break up the large open wall space. And, sadly, all my taps are empty at the moment. My keezer died. However, in happier news, the...

    What are you drinking now?

Accidentally drinking Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. I meant to open a Stone, but accidentally opened this one. Bottoms up to me! Lol

    Basement Bar Build Thread!

Progress has been slow with the new baby, but I did get some more brick up (excuse the mess from my daughter!): I still need to brick around the window and that last wall around the window, and then do all of the grouting. Then all I'll have to do to finish the bar will be to put in some...

    Hobbit Brew?

As a Tolkien nerd (and nerd in general, my wife likes to remind me), this may be my favorite thread ever on this forum. Thanks to this thread, I just downloaded the Hobbit on the Kindle app to reread yet again, with plans to then reread the LOTR trilogy next, probably followed by binge-watching...

Quit brewing for awhile. How long are my ingredients good for?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll toss the yeast and opened hops. I'll probably keep the opened ones and see how they smell and just increase the amount of hops I use in a recipe with the old ones, and see how the malts taste. Thanks again!

Quit brewing for awhile. How long are my ingredients good for?

Hello all. I have been on a hiatus from brewing for about a year and a half. The compressor in my kegerator died on me, life got busy, and I just started buying beers instead of brewing for the last 18 months, give or take. Anyhow, I'm back on the horse and getting ready to brew again. What's...

    DIY keg fridge?

Oh yeah! Duh! I think I had a brain fart. Of course that's how it works. The intake filter is on the same side the air is blowing out of. Lol. Thanks!

    DIY keg fridge?

I've decided to go the walk-in cooler route (got the blessing to go ahead with this from my wife). I have a drain that is not too far from where the AC unit would be, so catching that and routing it to the drain wouldn't be too hard. I'll go that route if condensation becomes a big issue. It...

    Bar / Tap Sign

Here's mine: I used a piece of chalkboard sheet from Lowes similar to this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/36-in-x-24-in-Black-Chalkboard-Sheet/1000069675 and then put a border around it and used permanent chalkboard markers to put the lines in. The lighting is lousy in this picture, but you can...

    Basement Bar Build Thread!

Thank you all! We brought her home on Sunday morning. She was 9 lbs 11.6 oz 21.5" long. This is our fourth (and last! lol), and so far, she's been the easiest and most laid back of all my kids at this age. She's already sleeping 3 hours at a stretch at night, which is amazing. We're hoping she...

I got the rest of the ceiling finished (without needing to buy more tiles!). I also got bricks mounted on one wall (still need to grout)

    DIY keg fridge?

I stumbled upon this http://www.mrmalty.com/brewstuff.php I figured an AC unit would freeze up making fridge temps, but it lasted him 5 years through hot summers in an outdoor shed. Mine is in a basement that stays 65 F year round. Maybe this would be an option. For anyone that has used an AC...
