Priming sugar for 20 oz bottles

Well, I successfully use 1/2 teaspoon in 12oz bottles and get great results. Converting .5 tsp into grams then dividing that into 12oz to get the grams per ounce then multiple by 20 ounces you get .833 tsp so just under a teaspoon per 20oz bottles. So to be cautious in not over carbonating a...

Thanks for the thoughts. So much to learn now that I have stepped up from extract and partial mash brewing.

    Water report help!

So I wanted to get more information about my water report, but don't really know what to look for, so I thought I may get some insight into it from some more experienced water adjusting brewers. Any info you may give me to help me learn this new topic would be greatly appreciated. PINELLAS...

    Old MrBeer kit

Every time I see this I laugh harder. This should be mandatory for all new brewers to watch. Still cannot believe he said he "dry coconuted". Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    1000ml erlenmeyer...too small?

I may have just solved my problem thanks to Flars and his post. I was so hung up on needing an Erlenmeyer flask that I didn't think about the 2 glass one gallon jug fermenters that I have. Just filled one up with 2000ml of water and tested it on my stir plate and we are good to go. I can even go...

    1000ml erlenmeyer...too small?

Well, the good thing is, I do produce a bunch of 2 gallon batches, so the 1000ml flask will not go un-used. Guess I need to look into a bigger flask now.

    Cool Brewing

I have one and live in Florida. I love it. Best thing is, after you are done with it, you can fold it up and put it away. Cannot do that with a chamber or fridge. Worth every penny.

    1000ml erlenmeyer...too small?

I have a 1000ml erlenmeyer flask and want to start making starters but I am wondering if this is too small of a flask. I usually brew beer under 1.056. Should this be good or do I really need to get a bigger flask?

    Higher gravity than expected

I have had the exact same issue with s-04. Stopped fermenting at 1.024 on a porter at 3.5 weeks. Warmed the fermenter up and swirled it trying to get it going and had no luck. I ended up pitching some us-05 from a yeast cake from another batch to get it finished. Since yours isn't as high as...

    1st slow chill

So, if I understand this correctly, your immersion chiller takes too long to chill your wort, so you want to try the no chill method? Why does it take long to chill with the chiller? I know people use this method, but not for what I am reading here. Did I not read this right?

    Bone head move

Was that layer of foam there when you sealed it up before? If not, something, possibly a wild yeast, got into the bucket and started fermenting it.

    Stout blow-off

Despite the yeast being tolerant of that high a temperature, your getting a very active fermentation most likely because of it being so high. You may also get some off flavors at that high a temp. Next time, try to maintain a lower temperature and it can help keep this a bay, most of the time...

    IPA question

Our water is not soft, it is somewhat hard. We get white scale in the shower and sinks, to it is definitely not soft. My water report has very little information that I find useful, so it is hard to make adjustments since I really don't know if it is good or not.

    IPA question

When scaling the recipe, I wondered about the .50 ounce hops at 60 minutes, but when I added a full ounce the IBU's went off the charts, so I stuck with the .50 oz. Guess I will have to try the full ounce and see what happens. How did your final beer turn out?

    IPA question

I only used a hop bag to dry hop. The hops that I used on brew day went directly into the kettle. I will however take a look at the hop screen. Thanks.

    IPA question

The recipe referred to Centennial AA% at 10% and my LHBS had 9%. I made the adjustments in Beersmith for the 9% which is what accounts for the 56 IBU's.

    IPA question

I have brewed about 20 batches of beer, but just switched over to all grain brewing. The first was recipe was an amber ale that was great. The second is a dry stout that is bottle conditioning now but tasted great at bottling and the last, and the reason for this post, was an IPA that I am...

    Tampa Beer

Don't forget Tampa Bay Brewing Company in Tampa. Great beer and a great place to eat as well. It has been on Diners, Drive In's and Dive ' s and is well worth the trip.
