Noobie Questions...tell me right or wrong.

Totally agree. Ditch the towel it could add bacteria that you don't want.

Noobie Questions...tell me right or wrong.

StarSan is not a cleaner, it is a no rinse sanitizer. When you say you use the bucket of StarSan to clean your other equipment, I would say you shouldn't be cleaning with StarSan. To clean you should try and get some PBW and clean all your equipment with that first, then sanitize. You also...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Yeah, totally glad you called it out as that is not what I intended. I use to love DGH version but this recipe exceeds that in my opinion. I will be brewing this every year. as for the yeast, yeah I was going to switch mine up but I only had US-05 on hand and I went with that. maybe next year.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale For context, I was sent to this thread when I was originally looking for a clone of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale.

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Loving this stuff. I think it is better than the original (DFH Punkin Ale). Bringing some up north in a few days so I had to come up with a label. Cheers!

Star San use w/ alkaline, hard water

Why not stick the wort chiller in the boiling wort for the last 10-15 minutes to sanitize? I thought that was the standard thing to do. I know some don't even do it that long. As long as it is in the wort before it goes below, I want to say 170f, it will be sanitized and you can forgo needing...

first batch is now in the fermenter

Are you using any form of fermentation temperature control? Most first timers miss this step and it is critical for good beer.

Star San use w/ alkaline, hard water

Someone may correct me but I was under the impression that the cloudiness was not an issue as long as the pH is correct. When I had hard water I used distilled water and mainly use a spray bottle to sanitize. Saves wasting tons of Star San. A small bottle of the stuff lasts me years this way...

    What thermometer do you use

I use Thermoworks Chefalarm. Has great features like a high and low alarm which I use for the mash and love. Plus probe options are great. Very accurate as well.

Low BTUs- pump pure O2 into the burner??

IMHO I wouldn't do that. Oxygen makes things that may not burn turn into things that burn. Yes you would probably increase the btu's but the risk far out ways the return. That is why they tell people who use oxygen never to smoke around the tank. Get a better burner before you need a new house.

    Brinkmann 815-4005-S Outdoor Cooker Stand

This is the burner I use. Works fine although I have nothing to compare it to as it has been the one and only burner that I have had. Can get 6-7 gallons of wort to a strong rolling boil in about 20-25 minutes depending on the weather outside and that is with not having it turned all the way up...

can i save it?? beer infection !!

I have had beers sit in primary for longer than 1.5 months and it didn't get an infection. This is a sanitization problem not a problem of it sitting on the yeast.

South Florida - Home temtemperature 78 - Spare fridge question

Lived and brewed in Clearwater FL and own two cool brewing bags. They work great and with one or 2 gallon jugs of ice you can keep the fermenter in the mid to low 60's easily. Best investment and improvement I have made in my beer.
