    What to Brew Now?

Try a SMaSH (single malt, single hop) beer to get more familiar with different malts and hops.

    Kegerator Shopping

Thanks everybody. I am now trying to convince the wife that another chest freezer would be a cheaper alternative. Hopefully I am successful as I am over bottling beer.

    Kegerator Shopping

Thanks everybody for the input. I am torn now between the chest freezer with picnic taps and buying a kegerator already completed. I just don't know about space in the room I planned to but this in for another chest freezer. I already have a chest freezer in that room and not sure it will fit...

    Kegerator Shopping

So is there a fridge out there that makes this easy to do? As I said above, time is the biggest issue for me. Between work and two young kids, projects are hard to squeeze in. It is bad enough that I have to take days off just to brew and those don't come frequently. I would be fine with picnic...

    Kegerator Shopping

Anybody know of a good place to purchase a kegerator? I got the ok from the wife to get a kegerator after she finally got tired of all the bottles in the house. I don't have time to put one together with 2 young kids taking up most, if not all of my free time. I have been looking around online...

How long are grains good once crushed?

I purchased crushed grains in Oct of 2014 and didn't get around to brewing them until July or August of 2015 and all worked out fine.

    New Brew

BierMunchers American Ale - Centennial Blonde Ale. Search for it in the HBT top 100 recipes (it's #1). I have this in bottles now and I have never gone through beer so fast. It is easy, and tastes great.

Been thinking on using rain water for my brew

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to use rain water instead of tap or bottled water?

    Cloudy cream ale...

Are you noticing this before you bottle it or when you pour it to drink? Could be chill haze which is protein that settles when the beer is warm but goes into suspension when the beer is chilled making a beer look a little cloudy.

First batch- No hydrometer for readings?

You may want to look into fermentation temperature control on the next batch...70-80F is a little high to ferment at for some yeasts. Controlling your temps on the low to mid 60's will result in a much cleaner finished beer...depending on the yeast and beer type of course, but usually this is...

    Beerwheel gets a puncture?

Nottingham is great yeast but at high temps will give you those banana off flavors. Find a way to control your Temps better before the next brew. It will make much better beer.

Guidance/advice needed on first three batches

Wait another week or 2, that's what I would do. Those gravity readings are a little high and I wouldn't risk having bottle bombs.

Understanding adding LME or DME late in the boil?

When I did extract, I put half the extract in the boil and the rest at flame out. Never had an issue doing it that way.

Bottled Pale Ale over 3 months old

Should be fine. I have had some go for over a year. At 3 months you may start to notice a slight fade in the hop flavor but nothing so bad you wouldn't want to drink it. At a year I have noticed a significant change in flavor. The hops fade and I have noticed a change in the malt character as...

    Wife Getting Excited!!!

You are lucky. My wife hates the entire brewing process even with me being an extremely clean brewer. She dislikes beer and thinks it is a huge waste of time and makes comments every time I do ANYTHING beer wise. Strangely enough, she will be the first person to tell guests that I brew my own...

    Your Thoughts/Prayers/Voodoo Needed

Glenn, my condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. You showed strength that I only wish I can have if I am ever faced with the same challenge. Despite me not knowing you and Marie, I feel I have gotten to know you somewhat through your posts and was saddened to hear the...

WSJ article on AB InBev distribution incentives

I guess they had to figure out how to increase the slowing sales and since the crappy beer they produce cannot do it on its own they had to flex their muscle a bit. One would hope that consumers would realize what is happening here but the people who regularly drink their "beer" probably don't...
