    Soaking oak chips

I've soaked both, coffee and oak in different whiskeys, both for different beers. I don't have any thing here that is "cheap" enough to soak in other than "Virginia Lighting" (white whiskey) do you guys think it will make it taste too harsh. I'm not adding the whiskey to the ipa, just the chips.

    Air lock

Thanks for the input. I'm sure it's going to be fine just a little worried because this is my first brew with this new kit I got. I've always used the "brewers best" bucket and three piece air lock.

    Air lock

So.. I brewed on Saturday and it still hasn't bubbled yet. I think my the area I had it was too cold. Bad thing is I don't have a thermometer on my bucket to tell me the temp. I moved it closer to a heat vent. Do you think it will be ok or could the yeast have die? I have a packet of dry yeast I...

    Air lock

    Aluminum pot for brewing

Thanks y'all. They have a 5 or 6 gallon at SAMs Club for around 30 and 5.2 gallon water jugs (filled) for 5 dollars. I'm going to use them instead of a 20+ dollar better bottle.

    Aluminum pot for brewing

I know that you should use stainless so the acids dont react to the aluminum, just like when making tomato sauce. But is it really that huge of a deals? I'm sure some will say yes and some will say no I just moved and I don't have any brewing items anymore and I'm going to put together one of...

    beer seems too light

Thank you for the advice and tips. It was bottled on the 22nd of December. It was never put in the cooler. I drank it from room temp in a room temp glass. My kitchen is about 68 degrees.

    beer seems too light

I guess what I ment was after you swallow the beer it had a bit of watered down mouthfeel/texture. I'm pleased with the overall flavor. Just not the viscosity of it.

    Coffee porter

On my fifth bew I'm making a coffee porter. It's in the primary fermentation right now, Saturday or Sunday ill rack it over. Ok adding my coffee beans to it then. My question is, should I crush them or leave them whole and should I soak them in some sort of alcohol to "sterilize" them.
