    How Old Are You People?

pffft. SWMBO turned 29 for the 5th time back in August. Yeah it's all fun and games now, but I figure here in a few years she'll finally roll over to 39 the second time over night and have a meltdown or something.

Quick questions . . who has the quick answer

Yes the 15-25% is hops only. Basically, bigger boil = get more bitter stuff from the hops so your beer will be overly bitter (or at least more bitter than the recipe calls for) if you do a full boil. RDWHAHB...it's easy, you'll make great beer :mug:

    Blow off tube

I leave mine in the whole time due to clearance issues in my chamber.

**PLEASE VOTE!** The Quest for the Ultimate Portable Brewery

I've been kicking an idea around for electric heat which would work well for a compact brewery: a heatstick on steroids. Get a chunk of steel (such as a large bolt) and drill a hole through it. Run a copper tube through the hole. Build an induction heater around it (A big, high freq coil)...

    Show us your SWMBO...

indeed. Probably never worth starting a fight, either :drunk: (my mother is a redhead...WATCH OUT when she gets on the warpath).

    Brewing...Is too long too much?

It's been in the fermenter just shy of a fortnight? You're good for another month. Get those temps down if you can :mug:

    HBT Pilots...MMW, with request

Wohoo! Back in the air. 1.0 yesterday and 1.1 this morning. Getting an hour of flying in at sunrise and beating most of the office into work is almost refreshing. Almost. Ground reference maneuvers are coming along and my landings are getting back to where they should be. Close, so...

Old car died, new car... MINI !!!!!

My little brother bought a clubman last year (he got the S at my insentience :D). They are indeed awesome little cars. I'd love it if they came out with that AWD model they've been tossing about...all rallied out with a bump eating suspension would be perfect for my drives to and from the...

Weighing the cost of milling your own?

Same boat here (maybe not quite 150 miles, but still). I look at it this way: for $7, Ed at Brewmaster's Warehouse weighs my grain, crushes it in his mill, packages it up nice, and ships it to my door. I balance the slight premium over wholesale with not having to hide large buckets of...

    Damn economy!!!!

That sucks. Here's to a speedy recovery and speedy job search :mug: I was sitting on Central Expressway in Dallas on Friday afternoon at a dead stop (typical). I checked my review mirror and saw a red Ranger coming up on the Saturn behind me (also stopped) fast. I grabbed the steering...

Cooler Box VS Pot & Grain bag

I don't know that BiaB is mature enough it fit it in a little box just yet. Besides, why not have the best of both worlds? A bag is a better lautering medium than either a manifold or a stainless braid (more surface area, no stuck sparges), cost about the same, is easy to implement, and...

    Single brew pot possible?

I don't know enough of the science to know what will happen with the grains sitting off to the side, but I'd like to step in with a couple of observations: 1) Three gallon batches will work fine in a 30 qt pot BiaB style. Check the can I mash it calculator to see what will fit. It will...

    Hello from Texas

Welcome! This hobby ain't cheap, but it ain't about cheap either. That's not to say you have to spend a whole pile of money though. :mug:

The scourges of summer: heavy girls in bikinis and flip flops

    No Chill Case Study

I'm not really sure what to look for in a sample this old. What does unstable beer taste like, anyway? Very interested in the results.

No chill cool in kettle question

I don't even use a blow off tube for no chilling in my ale pail...just a thermometer in the hole :D

No chill cool in kettle question

If that's been working for you, then I see no reason to change it. Cooled wort is cooled wort 20 minutes or 20 hours after the flame goes out, no? :mug:

No chill cool in kettle question

Have another pot you could "no chill" your top off water in overnight?

Cooler Box VS Pot & Grain bag

No, it doesn't. I BiaB in a cooler, though.

    Single brew pot possible?

It can work. I've done two BiaB sessions also (third coming up week after next). I don't do a single vessel system anymore, but mash with the bag in a big cooler ($25 for a 60 qt cube). I like the double vessel system for a couple of reasons: 1) I burned a bag my first time which...
