Do you use the Spigot on a bottling bucket?

I totally missed the bottling thread. I will read up. Thank you CGVT and the rest for the info.

Do you use the Spigot on a bottling bucket?

So my equipment has arrived. I spent a few hours unpacking and organizing it all. While looking through my siphon equipment I realized that I have a bottle filler that attaches to my auto siphon and my bottling bucket has a spigot on it. Is there any reason to use the spigot or should I just add...

    What the best starter kit?

I just recieved my first equipment kit. I bought the "Build Your Own Brewing Equipment Kit" from Austin Homebrew Supply so that I could get all of the options I wanted. Also with the amount of weight I was shipping (glass carboys) their free shipping saved me some money vs. other suppliers. I...

    Only Ya'all will understand this...

I bought glass carboys with my first kit, mainly so I could watch the fermentation. Stuff like that just facinates me.

    Switching from Mr. Beer

Ah, good point. I wouldn't hassle with one that is smaller than 5 gallons. If it is smaller, go buy yourself one. Maybe find the super cheap Better Bottles at Walmart if you are lucky.

My first kit and ingredients should be on my doorstep when I arrive home today. I'm sure I will be just as entranced as you are. Loving your hobby is a good thing.

    Switching from Mr. Beer

I would just use the carboy in your case and forget about secondary fermentation. Leave the beer in the carboy for the full amount of time, rack to bucket, and bottle.

Are there any problems with a 1 month primary?

I will keep my first batch in primary for 60 days instead of 30 and see how that turns out. Thanks for the info everyone.

Are there any problems with a 1 month primary?

I guess I need to go back and do some more reading from Palmer. I still don't have a really solid grip on the OG/FG other than that it determins the ABV of the beer.

Are there any problems with a 1 month primary?

Glad to hear it. I may move this to a 2 month primary. I read on one of the threads that if you go over 2 months you may risk the yeast dieing and have to repitch in order to carbonate. I'd like to keep it nice and simple for my first batch so I think 2 months will work nicely. Thanks for...

Are there any problems with a 1 month primary?

I'm a pretty patient guy. Especially when it comes to something that tastes good. Doubly when that taste is beer. I've got my first brewing equipment kit on the way and I've been lurking the forums and doing my research which led me to this question. Has anyone ever had a problem leaving their...

    How do you control temperature?

So it looks like from the posts I will try to get a STC-1000 and wire it myself (hopefully not catching my garage on fire in the process) and attach that to my spare fridge and some type of heating element. Light bulb/Flood light hung inside of the fridge sounds about right. If I can get away...

    How do you control temperature?

Hello all. I've just bought my first brewing equipment setup and am ready to get going but from all I've read temperature control seems to be a major point in making a good beer great. I've been looking at the Ranco two stage temperature control setups but can't bring myself to drop the $200 it...

Very new and ready to brew

Hi all. My brother wanted a Mr. Beer for Christmas (which he recieved) and after I bought it for him I figured out how awesome it would be to brew my own beer. So here I am, full of questions (been reading How to Brew). Once I figure out the best kit to start with I will be on my way.
