Using Block ice to chill wort

I boil water, fill up sanitized gallon jugs and freeze it. My boil ends up at 3 gallons, I cut open the ice jugs and pour the wort on top. I got to 64* in about 20 minutes last night.

    Batch #2 in the fermentor...

Saison - I'm brewing to my environment as per the advice of a friend. Everything went smooth. This time I did not have help. I pitched my yeast at 64*. Couldn't get the hose to fit over my airlock, so it's sitting in my shower stall right now. I also tasted my amber at one week in the...

If I remember correctly you can only use it on an ingredient kit - or at least mine is. I'm getting the Fulton Libertine kit

    New girl from Chicago

Well, I did a huge amount of reading and research before starting. I want to have a consistent starting point to know how to adjust. 21 days seemed to be an appropriate starting point. Bottling went pretty smoothly. Left a bit more in the fermenter than I had planned - lost maybe 3...

    1st batch bottling night....

Midwest's Autumn Amber. Smelled wonderful, looked great. Left a bit more in the fermentor than I had planned on but all in all it went well. I wasn't sure how thick the yeast cake was. Didn't worry, had a craft brew. I think I'll be in good shape in a few weeks!

    Chilling Wort with ice?

I made 14 pounds of ice from boiled water. Added directly to my wort. Had it down to 68 within ten or fifteen minutes. I dont have an easy way to drain. First batch is at day 12 in primary.
