Using a kegerator for fermentation temp control AND kegs

I’d find a cheap dorm fridge on marketplace for a single carboy for like $50 before I’d sacrifice the kegerator.

Using a kegerator for fermentation temp control AND kegs

I use a used chest freezer as a keezer, and it's currently outside under a woodshed. No problem maintaining temp in hot and humid Ohio. If it were me, i'd install a thermostat controlled exhaust fan in the shed to help. Nothing huge, just a way to pull out some hot air.

    New Keezer Best Practices

Vinyl hose is fine. Get a good leak check liquid, say from a HVAC supply house. Get longer beer lines too.

Help with 2 20a build design please

Yes. A pid with a thermocouple, and a solid state relay. I’d be nice to have a pid for each one, but you could get away without one on the bk. Definitely need one on the rims. I used an inkbird pid. Came with pid, probe, relay and heat sink for about $40

    Going All Electric

reason for edit. Reread my post and realized I must have been enjoying one too many homebrews. Sorry.

Help with 2 20a build design please

You could run the 1600 and pumps off of 1 20 amp circuit (plugged direct or a 12 ga extension cord) and a heat stick off a 15 amp circuit. This could be done as simply as some 20 amp illuminated light switches, or a switch like this , a couple indicator lights and a pvc enclosure.

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

Well, I’ll get a couple batches through the new system and then I back to back a recipe and see if I can notice the differences. Part of the new brewery and the consistency thing, being able to discern small recipe differences and being sure it’s not the process. Opinion on a style to try...

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

Awesome. I will try some of these. I guess I always associated malty with sweet. Smellyglove, what is your steps for a Heffe?

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

Man, I'm kind of there with you, I'm just wondering if there is something I'm missing. I'm going herms mostly for consistency, and stepping up batch size. I enjoy brewing, sharing, and drinking, and I think I make really good beer, but, that self doubt comes along and says, you could probably...

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

I was under the impression that malty and dry were kind of opposites. Is there a beer I could buy that tastes malty and dry? This might be what I'm missing. I like both malty and dry porters but I can't say I've had one that was both. I typically mash my porters higher for the malty, and my...

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

"To prevent a wire from getting too hot circuit breakers and fuses are used. These guys sense how much current is passing through a wire and if the current is greater than the fuse/breaker’s rating it will open up, essentially disconnecting the over drawn circuit from power. The size of the...

Help with 2 20a build design please

Do you want to supply the controller with 110 or 220? I would suggest 220 if you want to run 2 heating elements at the same time, 110 to use a 3 position switch (off - boil - rims) one at a time + pumps.

HERMS, RIMS, Step, Decoction. A statement, question and/or opinion

A brief background. I've been brewing AG for a couple years 5G batches on propane, and like many of you, I'm a professional tinkerer. I've brewed 65G so far this year, and I'm almost finished with a new 1/2 bbl eHERMS brewery and as of late I've been laid up with a back injury, so needless to...
