    Maredsous 8 or 10 Clone

I've been searching the internet for a Maredsous 8 or 10 recipe and have come up with the following recipe. It is still very rough and I would really appreciate input or another recipe on how to make this beer. I would like it to be a 5 gallon extract batch. Thanks. yeast #1388 Hops: 1.50...

Read this before you buy from Kegkits.com

I ordered ~$250 from kegkits.com a couple months back and everything went smoothly. The shipping was a little slow, but nothing to complain about. Also, I've heard, but haven't verified, that it's illegal for online retailers to charge you for a purchase until it is actually shipped...

    100qt SS Stock Pot

There is a seller on eBay with 100qt stainless steel stock pots for $160 shipped. :ban: I was wondering if anyone has experience with these pots or other info that would explain why they are so cheap? Here's the link. Also, is there any reason why a 20gal pot shouldn't be used for a 5 or 10gal...

    Environmental friendly brewing...

It seems like kegging your beer is a lot more green than bottling every batch. The keg itself is likely reused (Reduce Reuse Recycle), it takes less sanitizer to sanitize one container, no bottle caps just thrown away (if you don't use flip-top bottles), less material to cool compared to bottles...

    Corny Dip tube mod?

Well, here's 2 cents from a guy who has never done this but has read a bit about it. There is probably not enough room in a 5 gallon keg for the krausen from a 5 gallon batch. You may be able to add anti-foam drops and get away with it in one keg or you could split the batch into 2 kegs without...

    Conical Fermenters

Ya, if you're careful while cleaning them you will not scratch them, just as with the typical plastic bucket. With metal you have NO chance of scratching them unless, for some reason, you use a metal abrasive pad. I got the "idea" from experience from fermenting in plastic buckets sold for...

    Conical Fermenters

If you're gonna spend ~$200 on a fermenter, I'd stay away from plastic. I got a very nice, shiny one on eBay for ~$250 shipped and love it! I haven't seen another like it recently, only plastic. The reason you want to stay away from plastic is it tends to hold the smell of beer from one batch...

    Copper for fermenter

hmmm... I went to the Coors brewery a while back and all their fermenters looked like copper. Maybe it's just the outside, but I doubt it. For example: http://www.bourgnews.com/photogallery/1999/photoCO99/Pics/Colorado%20Coors%2099.JPG A copper brew pot would be nice for heat transfer, but I...

    Flow Control Faucet Opinions/Reviews

I acquired a "glycol cooled" 5 tap T style beer tower with standard faucets on eBay for $100.99 shipped. SCORE! It didn't have a lid and was kinda dirty and dinged up, but I made a lid out of sheet metal and cleaned it up. The taps aren't in very good shape in my opinion because the chrome has...

keg w/ nylon post. use it or drill opening

I had the same problem with a Firestone (yuck) keg. I drilled it out and put a Cornelius tube in, but it destroyed 3 or 4 Dremel bits :(

    Completed Kegerator - Almost

Very nice craftsmanship. +1 on keeping us updated with how it works with the attached "skin." It may be that it still cools to the proper temperature, but the compressor has to work much harder and more often than it would otherwise though.

    Tiny bubbles...

14 batches your first month! That's incredible! Did you do it at one of those places that has all the necessary equipment? Also, the marion berry wine a made a while back looked just like your posted picture when it was fermenting. It did that for over a year...

    Wort Cooling Concept

Also, I read this thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/cure-your-short-hose-troubles-100151/ a while back where people put plastic fluid mixers into the liquid dip tubes of Cornelius kegs to reduce pressure without increased line length. If you were to put them inside your immersion chiller...

    Wort Cooling Concept

Nice. How long does it take you to cool 5gal of wort? Do you just use cold tap water or throw ice and salt in, too? How much wort is wasted?

    Wort Cooling Concept

Ya, I definitely agree a transmission cooler would not be good to put in wort. One could still use a regular IC cooler though. So by setting heat lost equal to heat gained and solving for the equilibrium temperature I came up with the equation...

Excellent point. I'll have to look up the right constants and it's a simple calculation after that. Thanks.

    Wort Cooling Concept

That was my first thought, but a radiator would have a much higher surface area for heat transfer resulting in a quicker cool down. I may still have to stir the radiator though. Actual radiators would definitely work better, but I don't know if they'll fit in my brew pot (8 gallon Megapot)...

    Wort Cooling Concept

Hello everyone. For some reason or another, I've been thinking about how to very quickly cool wort. I know about counterflow chillers, but they have their drawbacks. I've always used an immersion chiller and like how easy the sanitation and cleanup are with it, but I don't like having to stir it...
