Boiling ~6 gal on gas stove?

Excellent. I found that thread just after posting. Fantastic info, but I'm weary about catching something on fire with the gas stove. Looks like I'll have to make a trip to home brew shop and see what they have. Does your pot fit all the way across?

Boiling ~6 gal on gas stove?

Hi yall. Haven't made a post in awhile or even done anything related to brewing in several months. Spent a couple months in Europe:mug:, plus school started and been busy with that. This might have been covered in another thread, but here's my situation: I moved into a smaller...

Forecast for today: rain outside with a strong chance of brewing inside

Sorry. Ms. Yooper Today's update: Woke up this morning and checked on the bubbling monster in my closet. OH SNAP! OVERFLOW! BLOW-OFF TUBE STAT! Caught that just in time before I had a mess. Was just reading the "warzone" pics thread too. haha

Forecast for today: rain outside with a strong chance of brewing inside

DAMN! You win, sir. The one I have has the priceless "Radio Shack" logo. heh Mr. Yooper, Thanks for clearing that up. Kinda what I was thinking but I wasn't sure. Cheers to this forum. What an incredible asset! :mug: Time for some homebrew...

Forecast for today: rain outside with a strong chance of brewing inside

Continued.... Close-up of thermometer-holder-thing (10 points to anyone who can guess what that thing is) Cold-ass ice bath. Worth every penny of the $3.99 bag of ice. Took about 25 min to reach 62F. (frozen 2-liter place inside to speed it up....its sanitized) Straining wort...

Forecast for today: rain outside with a strong chance of brewing inside

Forecast for this weekend looked terrible. Canceled plans of bike riding, and brewed my third batch indoors. (disclaimer: crappy celly pics ahead) Here's a list of ingredients I used: 7.42# Alexander's Pale Ale Extract 1# Crystal 60L Steeping Grains 1.25oz Cascade hops (bittering...

    Brewed Yesterday (IPA?)

That's what I thought. I'm hoping the "pre-hopped" extract I used will be enough for bitterness. I think you might be right on topping off. I put more extract than the recipe called for...and less water. I really hope this doesn't ruin everything.... UPDATE So I got home from work...

    Brewed Yesterday (IPA?)

Hello all. Just finished brewing my IPA yesterday. (at least I think it will turn out as an IPA) I did it using partial boil with one of those Coopers "kits". Ingredients used (5 gallon yield): 4# Coopers IPA Extract ("pre-hopped") 4# Alexanders Pale Ale Extract 1oz. Hop Pellets 1...

Newbie Brewer (brewbie?) from Chico, CA

Okay, that's what I thought. Better safe than sorry! I got a buddy of mine who just got into brewing to go with me to the meeting. I probably won't be there till around 7 or so. I'm also wondering if I should bring some of my brew. haha It is my first batch...

Newbie Brewer (brewbie?) from Chico, CA

That sounds like a solid recipe. Maybe I can work a little bit of that into this next batch I went and downloaded the BeerSmith program. I think with some practice it could be an invaluable tool. I couldn't quite figure out how you got those results. I'll have to look into it a bit more...

Newbie Brewer (brewbie?) from Chico, CA

That's so funny, I went by the brew shop this morning and spoke to Dawn about my new recipe idea. I forgot to ask about the local clubs! Is there any cost to attend? I think I will definately check that out on Thursday. So, anyway, for my Pale Ale I think I will use the full 4 pounds of...

Newbie Brewer (brewbie?) from Chico, CA

YES! That's what I was thinking. Cooling down the entire five gallons took forever! What I have now is two frozen 2-liter bottles full of frozen water. I figure I can throw the 1.5 gallons of wort into the sink in addition to placing the frozen (sanitized) 2-liters into the brew pot for some...

Newbie Brewer (brewbie?) from Chico, CA

Greetings all. Brewing my own beer is something I've been wanting to try for quite some time now, but never had the time or money. Luckily for me, I stumbled on a near-complete brewing kit on Craigslist. Only thing the guy wasn't including was bottles, ingredients, and cook-ware. Anyway, I got a...
