    first all grain brew

First off, relax. It's just beer. You have made beer before. AG is just making beer at a higher level. Don't worry too much about water chemistry. I have brewed nearly 100 batches and have never worried too much about water chemistry. Does it make a difference? Well, yes, and a sizable...

    Wrong bottles??

If you are really worried about them, and again I wouldn't be, even the slightest, wrap them in duct tape. The tape won't ad any strength but will help keep pieces contained if they do break. Put them in a tote or bucket to condition.

    Wrong bottles??

I wouldn't worry at all about those bottles. I have several of the flip top types and they are always fine. Let them ride.

    Mash tun cooler setup

I use a 48 qt rectangle cooler for my mash tun. I like the larger collection area of the rectangle and it seems easier to stir the dough balls out with just a big stainless spoon. It's the only thing I've ever used though, so I don't really have any experience with a round cooler to compare...

    Cider apple trees

I make both sweet and hard cider every year. I have tried single variety ciders and have never been overly impressed with the results. When I asked one of the old timers that got me into cider making, he enlightened me to the fact that the best cider is made from a mix of varieties. He also...

    Sunday Morning

Once again Sunday Morning has rolled around. Good Sunday morning everyone. Here in Western New York, it is a very breezy 35*F with temps. likely to go up near 50*F later. The wind is supposed to continue all day, and it is likely that we get some rain. We may loose most of our snow today...

    Buying equipment to get started

Totally agree, although Charlie's "The Complete Joy of Home Brewing" would be my choice for first books. Then the 1 gallon extract kits from Northern Brewer or the like in the style you are fond of. You likely have all the necessary equipment to make a good small batch.

    Quail Keeping

It has more to do with the lack of pesticides, or at least the discontinuation of DDT to be precise. DDT adversely affected the egg shells of raptors, like the red tail hawk and bald eagle. Causing drastic declines in their numbers. In turn, causing prey species like the quail, to have...

    Mini club competition ideas?

Use a simple grain bill and let everyone choose their own hops and yeast, or better yet pull hop and yeast choices from a hat.

does anyone know how stretch an o-ring?

If you have two o rings you can cut both and ad a piece from one to make the other the correct length. Super glue them together. No. Really it works. There are even make your o ring kits available.

Has anyone made any of the "Crafted Beer Kits" ?

I've never brewed one of these kits, but they should make a fine beer if basic brewing procedures are followed. Keep everything clean as grandma's kitchen floor, cool quickly after a boil, pitch a ton of yeast, and keep the ferment temps in the yeasts "happy" zone, and the beer should be better...

Beer Clean Glasses: Light at the end of the tunnel

I'm a dishwasher guy. I spent all that money on a machine to clean my dishes, I think I'll let it do just that. Never really noticed a difference with the glasses out in the shop that get the pbw rinse treatment and the ones that come out of the dishwasher. Maybe I'll need to pay a little...

    Rosé Beer

A simple wheat beer fermented with raspberries turns out a nice rose' color and makes for a very enjoyable beer.
