    Recirculating Mash Question

By longer sugars, u means longer carbs that are not as long as starch But not as short as simple sugars. Is there any reason recirculating would hinder this conversion?

    Cheap compact wort pump

Depends on what you're trying to do. If its transferring, pushing a plate chiller, recirculating, the $20 pumps seem to be enough. If its for whirlpooling, it seems to lack the volume. $20 pumps, beige - coated magnet ; black - exposed magnet

    Recirculating Mash Question

So I guess the test would be to mash a few minutes, starch test, even it it fails, start recirculating, and retest in 20. Once conversion is done ( starch test negative) is mashing done? Is there anything else that a longer mash accomplishes? Conversion, clarity.. Anything else?

    Recirculating Mash Question

Maybe a newbie question. For 20 min mash then 20 min recirculating, can the mash time be shortened to 5 or 10 minutes? I'm wondering what would be happening in the first 20 min of non recirc that would not be happening during the recirc. If the first 20 min was for starch to be converted...

Cheap pump and FDA approved 12v 100c

broni, did you have the 12v or 6v pump the op mentioned or another type? I'm considering one of these for a single vessel RIMS, BIAG setup. I was hoping it could be used with a counter flow chiller but that might be asking for too much.

    Rock hard DME

So earlier today I had a dme brick that I laboriously broke up. A solid brick, not powdery in the middle. Hammer blows were not very effective so I used a combination of a chisel and drill with a screw tip. I just discovered that this work is not necessary if u have some time. I left some big...

Secondary fermentation & the role of yeast

Good to know, I started fermenting in kegs and have been rousing the yeast by shaking or rolling. Just wanted to check hat I wasn't doing more harm than good. Thanks for the insight

Secondary fermentation & the role of yeast

Well, I'm not taking about adding fruit, I'm talking about the role of yeast in beer conditioning. It seems like the general concensus is that all fermentation and conditioning happens during primary fermentation and the secondary is for addition of flavors or dry hopping . I ask because some...

Secondary fermentation & the role of yeast

So I understand that primary fermentation is Sweet wort + yeast = dry wort + alcohol + co2 + yeast trub For 2nd fermentation,we rack off the liquids and leave the yeast cake behind. Doesn't the yeast play an important role in conditioning the beer. For example, doesn't bud add beechwood chips...
