    Uber chiller???

Let us know how it works out. If you have some success with it maybe I'll have to start looking on Craigslist for cheap dehumidifiers:mug:

    Uber chiller???

Are you planning to try it as an IC? I'd be willing to bet it will work pretty well. I'd boil it in some water first to get a passive oxide layer on it. I'd maybe put it in the brew pot a little longer than you would a normal IC just to make sure all the stuff hiding in the nooks and crannies...

    wort chiller?

If you are doing an extract batch and you have to top up your partial boil with water you can what I do; If it's good quality bottled water in the jug, you can sanitize the outside of the jug and a razor knife. Then use a hammer to break the ice in the handle and then cut the bottom off the jug...

Hand me down 5 gal bucket?

About 4 months ago I bought 6 buckets and lids on Craigslist that had ginger in them. I have tried everything to get the smell out and have not been successful so far. I used a strong bleach solution when I first got them, I used them as sanitizing buckets with iodophor, tried baking soda...

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

Ok so I did a water test and it works great. I decided to scrap putting a 5th pipe on since once I got it seated in to place it doesn't really warrant it. I did notice that there was like 1/2 gallon of water left in the cooler after draining it through the manifold. Is that normal to have that...

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

The holes didn't have much debris. I found when drilling to go somewhat slow and evenly with a fair amount but not a ton of pressure and the bit cuts pretty smoothly without leaving a lot to clean up. The holes that did have debris were the ones that I flew through. Before I use it I'm going to...

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

It took me about 40 minutes but I think it will be worth it. I can be a bit of an anal retentive perfectionist when it comes to things I'm passionate about. If only I could find a way to get me to be like that at work I'd be the CEO.:ban:

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

Thanks for the reply everyone. I didn't want to spend any more money (I know hack saws are cheap) and I already have a drill and bits, so here's what I decided on. I put a row of holes down the center of the pipe and the a row on each side with the holes staggered. I'm thinking that this is kind...

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

Tried that and my bit broke before it even made it through the pipe wall .

    Mash Tun Manifold Question

Ok so I got my mash tun built and the manifold pieced together and I'm ready to make some holes in it for the wort to flow through. I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to use a small drill bit to make round holes or if the slits are better. I've seen most people using the slits and it makes sense...

Is this copper tubing worth trying to use?

If you're planning to make an immersion chiller it's the outside of the pipe you need to worry about since that's what's going to be touching your wort. Some steel wool and maybe vinegar should probably do the trick.

    Yeast Starter Equipment

Oh and BTW you can also boil your starter wort in the microwave. Just combine the DME, yeast nutrient and water in your flask and put in nuker until it boils. Then give it a stir to make sure all the DME is dissolved and return to microwave and boil for 15 min. I wouldn't recommend microwaving...

    Yeast Starter Equipment

Scientific Equipment of Houston has good prices on lab glass and stir bars. They have light duty 2L Erlynmeyer flasks for $9.95 and stir bars for cheap too. This is where I got my stir bar from and they even shipped it free. Here's a link to the Erlynmeyers

    What is this thing?

It's kinda cool looking whatever it is. You could just keep it as a found art sculpture. I can see a dozen art projects in it.

    Cooking Oil Filter Pump

I've never used one but I'd be willing to bet that if it can handle cooking oil, wort shouldn't be a problem for it. Seems like it's inexpensive enough to at least try it and if it sucks then you're only out about $20. Post the results if you try it, I'd be interested to see how it works. One...

    24 Qt Mash/Lauter Tun?

Thanks for the response. I think you're right I might use the 48qt. It's not in that bad a shape just not as nice as the smaller one. I'm planning to batch sparge (for now) so I probably wont be needing a HLT right away, maybe I'll just use the smaller one to keep cold home brews handy :D

    Wretched Heinekin Bottles

I don't mind a little scrubbing but the amount needed to get the adhesive off of these is nuts. I did the razor method too and it's the adhesive that they use that's the problem. I read in another thread that starsan might work, someone mentioned it will even take of painted labels, so I'm gonna...

    Wretched Heinekin Bottles

Does it work for the clear plastic labels too, that's what Heinekin is using now. . . apparently. The paper gum back labels are a cinch to get off but these plastic ones are frustrating.
