    Show us your SWMBO...

I just blame my "creepiness" on beer.

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

The extra water definitely could be part of it, depending on how much more you added. If you read the recipe out of BYO, which was allegedly provided/confirmed by Stone, it calls for a 90 min boil, which would have reduced the volume, hence raised your SG. Still, you are far off the expected...

    Water Bottles for Fermenters?

Your Better Bottles are code 3? You got sold some imitations. Mine are #1....They are marketed as PET and therefore the higher price.

    Water Bottles for Fermenters?

Well, I checked and the bottles are stamped with code 3 so plan is abandoned.

Can you post your recipe along with mash, sparge, and boil volumes and times?

    Water Bottles for Fermenters?

I'm not talking about the bottles that are exchanged for filled ones. Walmart sells new bottles in the plumbing section, 5 & 3 gallon size.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

Without scrolling back thru all the pages, is there a need to update it? Seems the original recipe worked real nice. I've always been happy with it using actual beans and extract.

    Water Bottles for Fermenters?

Just noticed that Walmart has 3gal refillable water bottles for 6 bucks. Been thinking of brewing some small batches....Would these be safe for fermenting? Anyone ever use these?

Couldn't a SS racking cane be infected also? How much of a temp change would be considered acceptable? I use a water bath with ice bottles for now....so there is some fluctuation.

I don't care if its dull or shiny. I really woud rather not have to keep it shiny. I'm trying to track down this off flavor, part by part. Torso: No, the beers which really have the most off flavor are the light one's, like blondes, ambers, etc. No dry hopping for those.

    Help With Phenols (I Think)

Well, the clear vinyl stuff Lowes/HD sells. Been saying I'd order some heat resistant silicone but haven't yet.

12-16 beans? How many gallons? Holy crap! Cant imagine that much vanilla.... 3 was plenty in 5 gallons.

    Help With Phenols (I Think)

Going to jump in on this as another guy having problems with off-flavors. The only time my tubing comes in contact with "hot" wort is moving from the mash tun to the kettle and then after chilling from the kettle to the fermenter. At the first movement, the liquid is about 148-165 deg. and...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer None More Black Vanilla Stout

We happen to have a nice little specialty spice store here in Baton Rouge that sells them individually. Very high quality stuff there that is always fresh. Price usually varies between $2-3.50 per bean.

I've used both and in my opinion the Madagascar have a much better flavor! If you can get good quality Madagascar beans, spend an extra couple bucks and get 'em.

All of these brews have been kegged, BUT the flavor has shown up in the gravity sample before it got to the keg.

    Infection Elimination

Trying to get rid of a wierd after taste with my latest brews. Best way I can describe it is the taste you get if you chew on the shells of shrimp. Someone has noted to me that this may be a flavor associated with an infection. I am pretty thorough in my brew day sanitation so I'm thinking it...
