    Consecration kit from MoreBeer

This kit is available at MoreBeer again for anyone interested. I'd love to get it but I don't have that kind of cash at the moment. Maybe next time it comes into stock.

    Sour Mash Process Check

Thanks for all the help with this. I finally got around to making my sour mash last night. 0.75 # of Wheat and Pils, 0.375# of Acid malt. Mashed at 153* or so for an hour. Boiled for just a few mins to get the volume down to 1 gallon then cooled to 120* and pitched a healthy handful of...

Where to drill a Kenmore 8.8 for thermocouple?

Take a sharp utility knife and cut away the plastic lining on the inside of the freezer where you want the thermocouple to come in. If there is a line there it will be instantly visible as the lines are closer to the lining than to the metal outside. I did this with my kegerator and it worked...

    Keg type question

I'll 2nd the MFL/swivel connections. Another nice thing about pinlocks is that you can never get the gas and liquid lines mixed up - the pins on the post prevent it. Just a nice feature. You also know you have a pretty decent connection since the pins are engaged. A downside is needing a...

Berliner Weiss - how long to age?

yup, what Rob_B said. The bung and airlock on my better bottle was pretty tight so I doubt much oxygen got in.

Berliner Weiss - how long to age?

I only wish I had heated the beer while the lacto was working. That, or a sour mash to get more tartness out of it. This is a 3 gallon recipe. Made a lacto starter with apple juice and let it sit in the hot garage for a week. Brewed the recipe above, mashed at 152* BiaB style with a...

How to make a super sour raspberry beer

It would be better to wait 7 days with straight lacto and then pitch the lambic blend. That said, if you want really sour beer quickly, I'd use a sour mash.

Berliner Weiss - how long to age?

Update!! It's down to 1.002 as of last night. Sample wasn't super tart but what tartness was there lingered well. I'm really bad at tasting warm, uncarbonated samples. I hope to keg this soon and start on my Gose.

    Show us your Kegerator

Here's mine. Kenmore 4.6 cu ft stainless steel front mini fridge. I'll be able to fit 3 kegs in there, one 5 gallon and two 2.5 gallon. I'll add the 3rd tap to the top of the tower when I get some more cash. This will go into a bar I'm working on. The bar is going into a closet in the...

    rebottling from growlers?

other than a little oxidation and losing some of the carb, I think it'd be ok. The beer won't taste as well as it would have drinking straight from the growler but thats better than getting to flat beer in a week or so in my opinion.

    Bottle to keg

Why do you say this? you can force carb anything, whether it's been carbed or not. I also just got a kegging system and had a citra IPA that was overcarbed and WAY too mango-y for my liking. I brewed up a piney/citrus IPA and mixed it in the keg with the citra IPA. I just chilled all the...

Berliner Weiss - how long to age?

Mine has been going for almost 2 months. Pitched lacto for a week before the 3191 blend. No pellicle and has yet to drop clear. Planning on taking a gravity reading and tasting tonight. I want to keg it soon so I can carb it and have it ready for a homebrew fest on Nov 2nd. I'll chime...

Sour chamber got too hot! Help!

I wouldn't think so. The bugs and bacteria used in sours can stand those temps without giving tons of off flavors like yeast. As long as everything was aging and not actively fermenting I wouldn't worry about it.

    Overcarbed brew

yes, beer needs to be cold to absorb CO2. It needs at LEAST 1 week in the fridge, 2 is better. That will allow it to absorb all the CO2 in suspension and solution and you shouldn't have any issues.

    Kenmore 4.6cu ft. Kegerator Build

I answered my own question today - yes there are lines in the side. I didn't hit one but I did find itafter drilling a hole and getting rid of some insulation. If you do need to drill in the side, do what I did. Move the thermostat up and pull away some of the plastic behind the thermostat...

Cleaning kegs with Bar Keepers Friend?

Yeah, it works great!! I did it just last week with my 3 kegs. Cleaned up the black rubber too. I was even able to remove some sharpie from one keg with just a little scrubbing.

    Kenmore 4.6cu ft. Kegerator Build

does anyone know if there are lines in the side of this fridge? I have a 20# CO2 tank that needs to be on the outside of the fridge so I need to run 2 lines through the side. I did some searches but can't seem to find any info on it and don't want to just go drilling. thanks!!
  18. C

How much do you pay for a CO2 tank? Refill?

Well, got the tank filled last night. $10.83 after tax and I had no issues, even with an Airgas branded and stickered tank. Anyone in OKC who needs gas - go to Gas and Supply on Reno. I can only imagine how cheap most tanks would be since mine was a 20# one!!

    Wyeast 3191 Berliner Weiss

I started a BW with the 3191 yeast on 9/03. I did a week of straight lacto fermentation (at close to 80*) and then added the 3191 and dropped temps to around 68* and let the 3191 work for a while. Gravity was 1.010 on 9/21 so I moved it back to the beer closet (around 74*) and it's been...
