How much idophor do you guys use?

Here's a podcast about sanitizing with idophor. According from the guy at the company, people generally use too much. Interesting listen from Basic Brewing.

    Scrape Foam Off Boil?

Wow. That's a whole other dimension to think about.

    Scrape Foam Off Boil?

I'm not worried about boil over. I just wasn't sure because I vaguely remember reading somewhere to get a slotted spoon for scraping off foam. It's all good, I'll leave it alone because i want that head retention. Thanks for the info.

    Scrape Foam Off Boil?

Am I being obsessive compulsive when I scrape off the excess foam off the boil? Should I leave it? I'm on my third boil and I haven't even bottled my first one yet. I do feel my technique getting tighter though. The first brew was hap hazard, the second much better. Now on my third and...

    why the anti hooch thread

I didn't even know what hooch was 'till I came to this forum. I mean, I've heard the word, just never knew what is was really. Then I remembered prison hooch. I guess besides the underage thing, why would anyone want to make this when you can walk to the liquor store and buy some cheap...

    My Second Brewday Disaster

LOL. Funny stuff. My primary is now fermenting away with a nice, I guess, wheatie smell. My secondary has kicked up a bit with a little krausen and airlock bubbling. Life is good. Now to figure out if I can fit a third. Is that bad? I haven't even bottled my first brew yet. I just...

    My Second Brewday Disaster

Your totally right. I look at it as a success. No need crying over a little spilled wort.

    My Second Brewday Disaster

I'm getting tired of looking at my secondary, well not really but I had to get something new going. I decided on a hefeweizen because I wanted to skip the secondary this time around, and frankly, I love hefeweizen. After learning more about these, I'm wondering if I ever even had a fresh one...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

I came up with mine on the fly while signing up for this forum.

    Using San Pellegrino bottles

How did it go? We go through these bottles like crazy. Would be nice if the original twistcaps caps keep the carbonation so I could use them with my HB. At least for one go around.

    Earthquake Ale

Oh I just noticed it. It's from the lo quality gif settings I used to post. It wont look like that. :) My reason for dropping the description is it already seems so noisy with so much going on, but maybe I should bring it back.

    First Brew - First Label

I take it it's illegal to brew beer in Mississippi still. Very cool label. Kinda looks like a Russian propaganda poster.

    It's Beer Thread # 4080

thank you, sir. Thanks everyone on for your comments. Now to decide what to brew next since I have quite a wait ahead of me.

    It's Beer Thread # 4080

Exactly. It's hard to wait, but I'd rather get in the habit of doing things the right way. I'm a little nervous now but whatever. I'm optimistic and mistakes are to learn from. It's a Southern English Brown Ale. My OG was 1.041 and my secondary is 1.016. Seems a little high but I don't...

    It's Beer Thread # 4080

So I just had my own "It's beer!" moment. I'm planning on racking to secondary tonight so I popped off the airlock for a second to see if the krausen fell. I took a whiff and if that didn't smell like some good beer, I don't know what does. What a tease. Now I have to wait for another 5...
