    I hate ignorant people

I use this kind of opportunity to educate about American non piss beer. You can connect on the common ground of hating BMC beer, and then let them in on a little secret. American Craft Brew and Homebrew. No reason to get mad.

    What are you drinking now?

I'm drinking my latest homebrew. It's an American Brown Ale, tasty.

    krauzen deposits in secondary?

I have a stout in a secondary carboy and I've noticed a little ring around the edges at the surface of the beer. It's the first time I've seen this. I didn't notice any krauzen bubbles on the surface at all. It's kind of worrisome, but I popped the top and took a whiff and it smelled...

    Another Approach to Palmer

Just don't over complicate the process. It's easier in practice than in theory.

    percentage

(Og-Fg )*129= Abv question, why do different references use different numbers to multiply by?

    Random Questions

I would rather rack to a glass carboy with less headspace. Also, plastic is permeable, so if you end up leaving it on the secondary to long, that may have a negative effect. At least so I've heard around here. ;)

    Chill Haze...

I strive for more clear beer, but I'm not adding any crazy stuff like gelatin, fish guts, plastic, or whatever weirdness they put in there. I like the idea of my beer having only the basics in there. I may even go organic. I'd rather have a pure beer with chill haze, than a clear beer with...

    Wal*Mart Water?

    Ask Wal-Mart that question. :D

funny: home brew shop in SLC with 'missionary discount'

Maybe it's a Missionary position discount. I actually used to smoke a certain herb that's legal in California for medicinal use with a working Mormon missionary. Mormons who smoke and drink are called "Jack Mormons". Who really follows every part of their religion, anyway? Not many...

    Beer and Health

That's exactly right. 1 beer was defined as a 12 oz bottle of "common" stuff. Of course that's an average because everyone has a different susceptibility to alcohol. For example, a moderate amount for a woman is considered 1 to 1.5 drinks. That's not sexism, that's biology.

    Beer and Health

Sorry if this has been stated. I took a nutrition class last semester and we learned that moderate use of alcohol is not unhealthy. Moderate was defined as two beers a day.

    SLC brewpubs?

I recently learned that it's 3.2 by weight, not volume, which makes it stronger than I thought. 4.3 maybe?

    SLC brewpubs?

The pub is downtown and the airport is on the outskirts of down town. Turns out Squatters has an Airport pub. Perfect. Concourse C Terminal 2.

    SLC brewpubs?

Go to Squatters. I love their Full Suspension Pale Ale. Good food too. Yes they serve alcohol on Sunday. Also if you want to catch a flick, check out Brewvies. It's a theater that has micro brew on tap. Good stuff.

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

I couldn't wait for an answer so I just went ahead and did it. Came out perfect. I used 6 lbs of pale extract, a pound of specialty and a pound of 2 row. I was shooting for 1.056 instead of 1.045 w/ extract only and it came out right on the money. I knew I had conversion when I tasted the...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Let me make sure I have this straight. If I'm partial mashing 2 lbs of grain, I should mash in about 2.5 quarts and sparge in 2.5 quarts? (h20) Awesome post, DeathBrewer.

Just Finished my 9th batch - ready for ALL GRAIN?

I just picked up a copy of Palmer's book since I heard that he clears up some of the vagueness of the online version. I decided to hold off on the AG aspirations till after the holidays. For my next recipe I'm doing a pale ale, extract w/ steeping grains, but I'm gonna throw another pound of...

Just Finished my 9th batch - ready for ALL GRAIN?

I've decided that boiling inside is a no no. I'll do it outside my door if I have to. I'll probably wait till after the holidays to find a deal on a fryer. So it's not worth buying a 2 gallon cooler, huh? I guess I should do stovetop partial mash till I go all grain.

    alternatives to malt extract?

Isn't that 3.2% alcohol by weight? That would make it 4.2% ABV. Still pretty sad. You can only buy the stonger stuff in the very few state run liquor stores. SLC has some tasty brewpubs, though. Brewvies rules.
