Didn't Prune hops last fall, What do?

Hops are very sturdy plants @NitrogenWidget. 40 degrees Fahrenheit won't phase them. If you choose to trim them, which really is not a necessity being they're only 2 years old, you could do them now, all the way up to 5 or 6 inches of growth. Two purposes in trimming.... 1) To chop the apex buds...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Finished at 6.75 hours, 208 degrees internal temp. Didn't trim extra fat off, as you can tell in picture. I was being lazy this morning, as well as running behind. You can really see how well the fat layer prevents the smoke from entering the meat though!

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

In progress... 6 pound flat. Took this right before flipping it. Put a misting of applejuice, molasses, and honey on it before and after the flip. The rub was salt, pepper, onion, garlic, adobo, and thyme.

Which charcoal smoker do you have?

I just recently got my Broil King Keg. I upgraded from an early 1990's Weber smoker that was just not useable anymore. I don't know for sure, but it might have predated the Smokey...lol!! There weren't any labels or logos left readable on it. Being I had the Weber for many years, and smoked and...

Looking forward to it ba-brewer. I have been on a hiatus from roasting, but will crank back up here shortly.

How many years do hop plants produce?

Soil management is key. They will survive in lesser soil, but will thrive in properly cared for soil. It is a little harder than you think, keeping the soil at optimum. But, as said in earlier posts, pests and diseases could take your plants down before their time. Some plants have been...

Easier viewing...I think I may have ordered before some others here, as my 10 pounds of konga came in 2 5 pound bags.

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

They may not be in those containers long enough for them to get that far. Mine were in the large dixies, which is definitely not as roomy as your planters. Some of those roots were 4+ inches beyond the drainage holes in the dixies though, and they were in the dixies for around 3 to 4 weeks...

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

The transplant shock can last several days. How long before you get them in their larger bags? When you go to move them, just make a hole large enough to take the whole pots' worth. If you don't do it soon though, you'll have to take care when scooping them out, as some of the roots will be...

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

I didn't remove any of the rice hulls on all 2000+ plus plants that were transplanted. Did encounter shock though, with all the transplants. Spider mites were the next problem. Easily overlooked. Those white specks in the middle of the leaves showing up, and then the edges going yellow to brown...

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

Some bugs like certain plants more than others...if given their choice, they will always pick the better ones first! Dang little heathen bastards they are!!! LoL!!

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

The joys of hop farming!!! LoL! If you believe that you are overwatering, change the interval. Baby plants, like what you have, are a more challenging task. They are more susceptible to everything. I mostly watered mine in the evening hours. It was still light out, but the intensity of the sun...

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

Leaf hoppers are easy to spot, as they look like a green triangular bug that can get as tall as a 1/4 inch, and look more like the jump than fly. They usually come around mid May maybe early June though. Spider mites on the other hand are fairly persistent and are opportunistic feeders. They...

    Nitrogen Levels / Seaweed

You might already have leaf hoppers. The yellowing at the tips looks like hopper burn. Tiny insects that suck the water and nutrients out of your leaves...They can stunt your plants growth quickly. It could be spider mites also, as I see many little white dots on the leaves. You'll want a decent...

How many pounds of roasted coffee in 2020

I would say to count them. They were roasted, to a very well done level, and if it weren't for needing to season the drum and possibly remove trace amounts of machining oils, you probably could have brewed them. Might have resembled char bucks coffee!!! Lmao!!!

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Fresh off the smoker! It is now under foil and some towels to rest...put it on the platter kind of fast because it started to break apart on the transition...

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

That is the same thing I did for dinner tonight Brew Dude! Mine turned out a little lighter in color. I have to say that my tweaking the gaskets on my smoker worked fabulously! So much so, that I needed to relearn the set points with the vents. There is NO smoke coming out anywhere other than...

    Covid 2020 brewday from hell

Yes sir, that bark does look good! The rub I used tonight, I put more dark brown sugar, some more turbinado, and 1/2 tablespoon dry mustard (for some reason just love using mustard with butts) to a fairly standard bbq rub. Trying to get that nice "candied" bark
