    Think I under-pitched. What now?

Hmm... still nothing. I recently got one of those handle tools for prying the lid off of plastic buckets and I started to wonder if using it has made my lid leaky. I pushed down on the fermenter lid this morning and within 5 or 10 seconds the level in the airlock had gone back to neutral...

    Think I under-pitched. What now?

There was nothing going on when I got home so I combined what had settled to the bottom of my other 3 harvested jars and pitched it. If this works I'll still consider it a success.

    Think I under-pitched. What now?

I tried yeast washing for the first time yesterday and I immediately used one of my freshly washed yeast jars to start a new brew (a Mild). I don't think I got enough cells after washing. The liquid looked like chocolate milk when I put it in the jars (I actually used Starbucks Frappuccino...

Help me make up a cheap recipe of stuff to throw on this yeast cake!

I'm brewing again :ban: - airlock bubbling happily on AHS' London Pub Ale! Sadly, I waited until my Red ran out so I'm short on things to drink (Belgian dubbel still on tap though). Anyway - to the point: It seems like a shame to just wash all this yeasty trub down the sink when I transfer...

    Frustrated with glasses of foam

I haven't been so far, though maybe I should rig something up. It gets very little light there, despite the look of that picture. The kitchen lights are off all day and the roof over the back porch keeps any direct sunlight from getting in. I was reading the noob forum lead-pipe-whatever...

    Frustrated with glasses of foam

Thanks for the tips. I think I will try getting the barb adapter to see if a bit more line takes care of it. In the mixing stick thread it seemed like they were the end-all-be-all for balancing problems, but for whatever reason they don't seem to be doing the trick for me. To answer a few...

    Frustrated with glasses of foam

Hmm - good thought, but I don't want to cross-post... maybe a nice mod will move it for me? :mug:

    Frustrated with glasses of foam

I've been doing a ton of reading on balancing my kegging system, but I'm still having a major foam problem. Right now I'm trying to get my root beer tap squared away while I'm waiting for my honey brown to finish in the secondary. At first, I heard that I should carbonate at one pressure, and...

Will hot water in the fermenter take on a plastic taste?

I ended up dumping that water out and using water from my kitchen sink's spray hose to top off. I think I got some really nice aeration from that - we'll see how it turns out! No bubbling in the water lock yet - but it's only been about 4.5 hours. Oh, this is the honey brown ale recipe...

Will hot water in the fermenter take on a plastic taste?

That pretty much answers my question - but just to be clear: What I'm talking about is the "extra" water added to the wort to bring the total volume up to 5gal. Is it better to boil that water and have it cool in the plastic bucket (the ship has sailed on cooling it in the metal pot because...

Will hot water in the fermenter take on a plastic taste?

I hope this question hasn't been asked a million times. I'm brewing my first batch now and I'm hoping someone will answer quickly before it's ready to be cooled and put in the fermenter. I have 2 sets of instructions... The one from the homebrew store says after my wort is cooked and cooled...
