    1 week hopnog 2009

Glad to see it as my HopNog in primary is a plastic bucket so I can't see what's going on in there! First brew and looking fwd to drinking it.

    Brewers Best HopNog 2008...

Glad to hear all of the great reviews guys. I have this as my first brew, cooked it up on Sat and in the primary now bubbling away - pretty damn cool! I plan to goto secondary and it just says to do so before fermentation ends, so I plan to do it at the 4 or 5 day mark. Any thoughts there...

brewers thoughts on home wine quality

Ha, true. I'm not looking to make a $100 retail equivalent bottle. Would be happy with $20 retail really. We'll see how this first batch turns out. It's a blend of three red grapes, mid tier quality I'd say at $80.

brewers thoughts on home wine quality

Ha yeah, I've been skeptical of the red kits; hesitantly optimistic that it will turn into something good. Of course everyones' taste's vary. On a wine forum, I presented a similar question and everyone swears they are just great. But when I see that that reviewer is making peach wine, mead...

brewers thoughts on home wine quality

Interesting, thanks a lot for the feedback. I was going to spend $180 or so and buy an expensive red kit next, we'll see how this first batch turns out before I take that step. I saw some that come with grape skins, I imagine that will help some. The down side as we all know is you have to...

ready to do 2nd brew. any suggestions?

Hmm... yeah the cream ale seems a little light in flavor, I see descriptions of "faint malt, hint of corn" but a crowd pleaser it may likely be. A light pale ale is an option too. Since no one thought a belgian would be good are they not that popular for the average drinker? I figure it...

brewers thoughts on home wine quality

So I have a batch of wine and beer fermenting along and am curious what type of results to expect. I think home brewed beer quality will be pretty good/decent while as with the wine I'm not so sure it would be as tasty as the brew. any thoughts/experience there? It seems like wine can be more...

ready to do 2nd brew. any suggestions?

I have my first beer, Brewers Best HopNogg IPA in the primary bubbling away! I'm contemplating what beer to do next. I'd like something with a little more broad appeal so guests and the wife who aren't IPA fans will enjoy it too. Was thinking about a Belgian beer kit. Is there a kit anyone...

    Craft Beer Suggestions to Try?

I normally like the Saranac beers but don't care for their IPA at all! I'll take any other IPA over theirs. I'm doing a Brewers Best Hop Nogg now. Any had? any good? The store said hoppy and I was sold on it.

secondary racking question / brew belt okay?

So I plan to do a secondary fermenter for my IPA. It says to move it in 5-7 days but before fermentation is complete. Am I safe to just rack to secondary in 5-7 days...I don't know how I'd know when fermentation is almost done other than the length of time passed. oh and it doesn't seem like...

    bottling bucket necessary?

Great, thanks for all the feedback guys, I'll likely just pick up a bucket when I'm at the store this week getting the kit. I think Freedman mentioned bottling wine? Would you bother using the bottling bucket when bottling wine or is that a different scenario. i have a red in the primary...

    bottling bucket necessary?

I plan to undertake my first brewing session this weekend and wanted to make sure I had all the supplies. I noticed on the beer kit's instructions it says to rack the beer from primary to the bottle bucket to the bottle. Seeing as I don't have a bottling bucket, can I just go from primary to...

Atlanta gets brewing kit from Santa

I'm in Duluth, GA. Took a trip to Beer Necessities/Brew Depot in Alpharetta last week for my first wine kit and plan to go back this week or next for the beer kit. They seemed to be pretty good and knowledgeable. I'll borrow a buddy's kettle for the boiling part and then buy my own once I get...

    Craft Beer Suggestions to Try?

Good idea on the michelob bottles, been buying the craft beers and trying to plow through them. had the victory hop wallop... is the victory hop devil more or less hoppy?

Atlanta gets brewing kit from Santa

Hey folks, just got my brew kit over the holidays, will get cracking in a few weeks. actually have some wine going now, but plan to do some beer next! it seems like brewing beer is a little tougher than wine, thoughts? i saw some discussions that even mentioned there was no need for a carboy...
