We bottled out first brew last night...

Thanks, Jesse. I'm not a paying member, so maybe that's it. I DID post the whole URL, including http://.

We bottled out first brew last night...

Jesse, That's what I'm doing, but it isn't working for ME, but it works for YOU? I can't figure it out! When I preview it, they show up, but when I post, they do not. Do I need a different member level or something?

Hey, can anyone tell me how to make my images appear here? I used the image tags...

We bottled out first brew last night...

:ban: Here's what it looked like a few days ago: And here's what it looked like last night: Pretty, huh? Some would disagree with the sterilized bottles (also got one in the pic), but it made bottling so much easier because we just grabbed a couple cases of bottles, I...

    Best methods for cleaning bottles?

But I'm a microphobe- and I REALLY liked the idea of sterile bottles (vs. sanitized). Also, they keep until you use them.

    Best methods for cleaning bottles?

I just bottled my first batch last night. I soaked the bottles, ran them through the dishwasher without detergent and let them heat dry, then I wrapped the tops with aluminum foil and placed them in the oven. I slowly brought the oven temp to 350 degrees and baked them for 90 minutes to...

    Timing of moving to secondary

Thank you so much! But this means we'll have to wait longer to drink it! Boo! I know it will be worth the wait, though!

    Timing of moving to secondary

This is my first brew. I currently have a Holiday Ale (from a William's kit) in my primary. I am on day six of fermentation. The instructions that came with the kit say nothing about a secondary and they also say to check the gravity at 12 days (and we should be able to bottle at 12 days...

    Bottling vs. Kegging

I've heard many of you say how much bottling sucks and I'm curious as to why. I've yet to bottle my first batch, so I just can't know, yet. Of course, I HAVE done the time removing labels, and that's a pain, but what else is there? Also, what are the drawbacks to kegging, if any?

    Build-up

OK. Disclaimer here: I've yet to bottle my first brew. I've heard that you can put it in a secondary fermenter with Knox gelatin and reduce a lot of that. (It's 2t gelatin in a cup of water for about 1/2 hour, then heat to 180 degrees, (I would let it cool), then add to fermenter for 3 days...

    Noob Brew

My husband met a brewer last night who has all kinds of equipment he's no longer using. We're going to contact him and see what he wants for the stuff WE want. He has a thermostat for a chest freezer, but no freezer. Hey, we have a chest freezer!:mug: And the ceramic-stopper bottles, and...

    Noob Brew

Thank you! (and such a quick response!) Yes, I'm the Mo and he's the Willy.:p:D Because it's a kit, I don't really know what spices were in the spice pack, since William's doesn't disclose that kind-of stuff. We both cook rather extensively and I don't SMELL cloves, but I don't know... I...

    Noob Brew

We brewed our first batch ever from a kit from William's (I know-- Now I know better, so I'll do better...). It's a Holiday Ale. The instructions said to ferment at room temp, which is about 76 here in the South. I started out at room temp, but learned that Ales needed to ferment at a lower...
