If yer making this to drink without distilling, it will be so nasty as to be undrinkable. If yer distilling, shoot for 7 or 8% abv. It will ferment out MUCH cleaner and ferment in a fraction of the time.

Today's first smoke is EMP in an almost 20 year old cob.

I don't think he said "top buds" to mean main colas. I took it to mean "quality cannabis". The material he is using is most likely trim from the colas, and any larfy buds.

Ghee can be used, but not necessary. I don't know if cannaghee would last longer in the fridge than cannabutter. Good question. I know cannabutter is good for at least a year in the freezer.
