    Caramel Apple Cider

I made about 3.5 gallons of this and the OG was 1.086. Made it with Us-05 and it has been fermenting for about 13 days. Just checked the gravity today and it is at 1.005, and I believe it is still going, so going to give it a few more days.

    BIAB size question

Thanks for the update advice, that sounds completely doable and it makes sense. I hope to brew this on the 13th, so I will more than likely have a couple of questions before then, and will let you guys know how it goes.

    BIAB size question

Thanks for all of the responses guys, I have a lot of reading and thinking to do. I should have put in the OP, that I am looking at doing the NB Belgian Dubbel. I just looked at the kit inventory, and it is an OG of 1.065, and an ingredient list as follows. Mash 10# Belgian Pale .5#...

    BIAB size question

I am looking to do my first AG via BIAB. I have access to a 30 qt turkey fryer pot and propane burner. How big of a beer, how many lbs. of grain, will I be able to get away with mashing and then boiling in that 7.5 gallon pot? I want to do something like a belgian dubbel as it is my...

    Caramel Apple Cider

Oldmate, thanks again for the recipe, after a day or two with just tiny bubbles coming up from the bottom I took a look when I got home last night and I now have a krausen that is over 2 inches, so the yeast are having a good time. It smells amazing in the room I have it fermenting at, can't...

    Caramel Apple Cider

Thanks oldmate, I ended up adding half a packet to it even though it finally started while I was gone for the day. The cider is super dark, and the smell coming from the airlock smells just like a carmel apple, it smells awesome. Thanks for the recipe and I will let you know how it turns out...

Not bubbling after 24 hours. Infection?

Looks fine to me. When I have used just pressed cider I have gotten that "foam" but when I have used apple juice I have not had that foam. I have 4 gallons going right now with just juice and I have bubbles but no foam, so again, it will be fine.

    Caramel Apple Cider

Mixed up a 3.5 gallon batch of this today for the Mrs. I think I am going to have to get another package of yeast tomorrow and toss it in as I didn't realize that the SG was going to be as high as it is. SG was 1.086, and I just used one package of us-05 and no starter. So again, I think I am...

    8$ wheat bush beer

Wow, look at Jsmith getting all creative:) I was wondering about clearing this a little. I read earlier in this thread about using Knoxx gelatin. Did you use that on your first batch? Either way, how much would you use in a full batch (4 gallons) of this stuff. When I did my gravity sample...

    8$ wheat bush beer

I used the Carnation brand. As far as the expirement goes, I my OG was around 1.038 if I remember correctly and as of today, 6 days later, it is at 1.006. I doubt it is going to go lower but am going to give it a few more days, likely until Sunday. I tried the reading sample and I was...

    8$ wheat bush beer

SO this stuff still has me just dumbfounded. Just took a sniff and for the first time since it started fermenting it doesn't smell like someone dumped a bunch of eggs in my primary, it is actually starting to smell "normal?" It is going to be an interesting day when this stuff is done.

    8$ wheat bush beer

Oh, I completely get that this was more extract than anything else. I have been doing extract with steeping grains for my other batches and have been doing a ton of reading. I am more than likely going to be doing BIAB route for the all grain as funds are tight and I can't get the clearance...

    8$ wheat bush beer

I did use bread yeast as I figured that I would try the cheapest route possible. I plan on trying an all grain shortly, so figured I would give a cheap and easy route first.

    8$ wheat bush beer

charesty and jsmith I have a questions for the two of you. I just took a look at my primary and smelled the primary, and it smells like sulphur. If it has turned already I want to toss it asap, but there is definitely fermentation going on.

    8$ wheat bush beer

I whipped up a batch of this tonight. I figured what is the down side, I stuck close to the OP, but threw in some hops that I picked at a friends house and did not have enough for a REAL batch. Only made one mistake, had the wrong size stopper for a carboy I got from my parents, and it would...

Visiting Wisconsin - What beers to try?

Big fan of Lakefront's Riverwest Stein, and they have the best tour imho. It is a ton of fun and you get to drink a lot.

    One Gallon Recipe Help/Ideas

I guess I was just looking to see if anyone had some one gallon recipes that they have used before. I know it is hard since I have no idea what kind of hop these are, but I figured I would just wing it and see how it turns out. I am going to be e-mailing HopUnion to see if they might be able...

    One Gallon Recipe Help/Ideas

Hey everyone, I just picked some fresh hops that some friends had growing in their back yard that I didn't know about. Anyways, I didn't get much, I think after drying I will have around 1.25oz or so. I would like to make a one gallon batch so that I could give them the 8 or so beers I get...
