Low ABV due to over filling fermenter?

Sweet as. So if I'm buying un- cracked grain, what's a good process/technique for getting a good crack? And how cracked are we talking here?

Sweet, thanks for that! I'm really glad I joined this forum, forever learning and on the way to better beer! Haha

Low ABV due to over filling fermenter?

Also, how crucial is it to crack the grain when partial mashing? Because if it's relatively important, I may have just answered my own question. :s

Low ABV due to over filling fermenter?

It would seem I am blindly filling it up. How do I calculate efficiency? So, just to clarify, I should be taking a reading before I top off, then add top off water until I get the desired OG?

Low ABV due to over filling fermenter?

Hey guys, I've brewed a few partial mashes thus far and they all seem to have low ABV. I'm not too fussed, but I would like to know where I'm going wrong and I have a feeling I'm over filling my fermenter, could this cause low ABV and what's a good way to calculate how much to fill my fermenter...

    Recycling stout

Hey, sorry I just realised how what I wrote could be confusing. I'm just wondering what to do with the beer I have bottled, in short I just want to add cherry to it and re-bottle. Is it just a case of racking it on top of cherry juice/purée, leaving it for week and bottling as normal? Is this...

    Recycling stout

Hey guys, I've got a batch of chocolate stout I brewed about 6 weeks ago and I want to turn it into a cherry chocolate stout. The beer itself is ok, but I want to brew the recipe again and change a few things next time. Anyway, just wondering, with beer that's already bottled, whats the...

    Partial Mash Watermelon Wheat Beer

Hey chickypad, cheers for your input. I was actually considering using a wyeast pack, but have never done so before, so wanted to get some more info and in the mean time see what people thought of the WB06. My LHBS doesn't seem to stock 1010, any other suggestions? and is a 125ml pack enough...

    Partial Mash Watermelon Wheat Beer

Hey guys, I'm really keen to try a watermelon wheat beer for my next brew and I'm currently doing partial mashes, but can't find a partial mash recipe. I have however found a couple of all grain recipes and a few extract recipes so have conjured up a partial mash recipe and am looking for some...

    Bottle conditioning + Sweetness

Hey guys, Just curious about bottle conditioning and what it does to sweet flavors in beer. Are sweet flavors more likely to intensify or mellow out with age? Or is it more complicated then that, is it dependent on the type of sugar or where its sourced i.e dextrose, honey, fruit etc...

    Brewing Clubs in West Australia?

I might be a little late here, but TWOC brewing supplies is THE best brew shop in WA, IMHO. Otherwise BrewCraft in Osbourne park is also good :)

IPA recipe-looking for some feed back

Thanks man, just the feedback I was after! What you've said about the late hop additions makes a lot of sense, and it WAS meant to be a dry hop. I still have some in the freezer so will do as you say and add some after fermentation is done. Once I get around to drinking it, I'll share how it...
