Winter Makes Me Hate Propane! Convert Equipment or Go GRAINFATHER??

Lol, I was kitchen brewing at first but as I started moving from partial mash to more grain with BIAB the bag draining got awkward. Made a switch to the garage workshop with 3500w induction burner set up. Love the simplicity and ease of brew day and clean up.

Kettle: MegaPot vs Spike vs Brewbuilt vs Other

I like the SS Brewtech, but Spike seems to be excellent as well. I'm not familiar with the others.

Brew Bucket owners - What Mini Fridge are you using ?

I use a Magic Chef 4.4 cu ft. Mini fridge and it'll hold my 7 gal ss brew bucket fermenter or it'll hold my 3.5 gal ss mini bucket and a Mr Beer plastic keg fermenter. I like to have that option of running two different small batches and those little MB kegs will easily hold 2.25 gal without...

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

Oh, they look like they would but I don't know their exact dimensions. I know my 7 gal brew bucket is a tight fit, but it makes it. My 3.5 fits well enough that I can also get a Mr Beer fermenter in there at the same time. Yeah you'll love the stainless!

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

I really like the stainless bucket style fermenters. Easy to fit in a mini fridge, easy to clean, and upgradeable to heating and chilling. I have a 3.5 & 7 gal made by SS brewtech, but similar style I think. I get much cleaner beer with them and the cone design for trub and rotating racking arm...

    Beersmith3 Water Addition Calculations

I've just recently started with Beersmith, but I've been using Qbrew for awhile. The software is going to take into account grain absorption, as well as the info you entered into your equipment profile, such as any leftover wort remaining in your kettle. It'll do the same for your fermenter...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

I think we can all agree that many things can and will go wrong in brewing whether it be BIAB, 3V, or a small pot on the stove. Burns, spills, a loose hose, pump malfunction, etc. No one has a bigger claim than another on the amount of enjoyment or the time it takes to finish a brew day. As a...

    Why doesn’t everyone BIAB?

Indeed, each to his own preference and situation. I outgrew the gas stove top in the kitchen and also did not want to have to carry a kettle of hot wort. Since I am space challenged in my garage wood shop, I came up with a simple BIAB set up on my workbench out there that requires no lifting...

    Software Recommendations for eBIAB brewers

Thanks, I think there are some other water calculators I can use in the meantime. Garage Monkey, a franchise, coated the garage floor and block. Completely seals all the concrete and so no moisture and helps insulate the garage and blocks out moisture. Was worth it.

    Software Recommendations for eBIAB brewers

@ScrewyBrewer I've been using your Qbrew for my extract & partial mash brews, but I'm transitioning to more AG batches BIAB. I've used your ezRecipe v.1.24 for my last batch. I got my water report from Deer Park for their Spring water. Will ezrecipe allow me to input and develop my spring water...

    What's your MASH conversion effeciency

Lol, I haven't really. Truthfully, I haven't even messed with it. Once I switched from tap water to bottled spring water the beer has tasted fine, and I've only been brewing a year, so been concentrating more on improving my set up and skills. I did get some test strips, which I know aren't...

    Sub 5 gallon electric kits?

I have the mini brew bucket as well as the larger brew bucket. I brew in the garage with an induction burner, BIAB, and use a dorm style fridge with an ink bird for temp control. Works great. I can fit the mini bucket and a $10 MrBeer keg fermenter in there at the same time, or for slightly...

    Anyone using induction cooktop?

I had the same concern about the moisture in the garage as I have my table saw and jointer that have cast iron surfaces. Fortunately I have a large ceiling mounted woodshop air cleaner, with a powerful 3 speed fan. Turning on the fan and cracking open the garage door a couple inches during the...

First no sparge batch using BIAB

Thanks, I had noticed my crush wasn't that good from my supplier, so I bought a grain mill and it does a much better job, particularly on wheat grains. Plus, I kind of like being involved it that part of the process.

First no sparge batch using BIAB

I moved from the gas range in kitchen to an induction unit in the garage to cut down on lifting and moving kettle with hot wort. Yesterday was my first batch and I tried a full volume no sparge BIAB batch, since I'd installed a pulley. Truthfully, I figured my efficiency would be poor...

    Anyone using induction cooktop?

First garage brew day yesterday. All in all it went well. My only hiccup was that I had to boil off an extra 1/2 gal of wort. Induction burner did great and super pleased with "no lift brewing"! Mash, slide kettle on platform under pulley, drain grains with no sparge, slide back onto burner for...

    Anyone using induction cooktop?

Mounted the ratcheting pulley yesterday. So while not everything is perfected for my streamlined workflow for brewing in the garage, I've got enough done for a first small batch brew day. My last things to do are finish a small platform that's even height with the induction burner to slide a...

    What's your MASH conversion effeciency

Interesting I've not measured my preboil gravity just the wort going into fermenter. I'll try that on my next batch.

    Anyone using induction cooktop?

Ran a trial yesterday with the 3500w Avantco. 4 gal of water in my 7.5 gal Anvil kettle. 24 min to 158F from 64F tap water. From 152 to 212 took 16min. I'll need to buy or make up an extension whip so I can move the burner around on the workbench. Very pleased with the performance and not...
