    RIMS for Dummies

Noob question alert. For some unanswerable reason I have suddenly become very interested in HERMS / RIMS and am still struggling to wrap my head around the pros/cons of each method. I am wondering what temperature the wort reaches as it passes the element. I know the average temperature...

American IPA Bee Cave Brewery IPA

To simcoe or not to simcoe.........? I have the ingredients as listed to brew this weekend using amarillo instead of centenial, but I also have an extra ounce of simcoe. IPA is by far my favorite style (Surly Furious clone is the most recent tasty favorite,) I love the citrus/orangy and floral...

    Yet another brew rig....

Wow, great design. I never cease to be amazed at the creativity of brewers. I'm wondering how easy it is to tip up on its end (side) to take up even less floor space. jason

    Wanting to make dip sticks

FWIW - I found aluminum rod at my orange box. I think it was about 1/4 inch diameter. It was creally heap and very easy to notch the gallon marks. Sanitizes in Starsan when needed. I have one for the BK and another for HLT. AL isn't as fancy as the SS or plastics but it works and didn't...

**PLEASE VOTE!** The Quest for the Ultimate Portable Brewery

Boerderji, Not a total fail - You really turned me on to a great set up and a wonderful solution to my lack of storage space. For 1 'unit' of space, I can get a 2 tier or 3 tier system with Wildwest's mods (sweet!). 2 burners to start with, cooler MLT, gravity flow (I do 5 gal batches)...

How To Send In Water For Ward Labs Test

Ok...... so maybe it was a simple mistake on one of our parts (mine or Ward's). I'll make sure to get the prepaid label next time. I certainly didn't mind paying for the S/H - I still think it is a good deal. I am glad to hear that they really do include the s/h with the cost - it makes it...

How To Send In Water For Ward Labs Test

Just curious - I recieved a regular shipping label as well and no box. I followed the instructions and checked all of the appropriate items. I am wondering if it has to do with being a first time customer? This isn't a complaint and I can't wait to get my results, I am just wondering if...

Marking your brewpot for volume! How do you do it?

+1 for the measuring stick. I found an 1/4" x 3 ft AL rod at the homedepot for a few bucks. Added a gallon at a time to the kettle and used a cheap triangular file to etch a notch into the stick. - easy to read and will never wear out. It makes it very easy to guestimate less than gallon...

Beer line tests & solution to the "plastic" taste

Kal, I'm still curious. First I'm not sure if my new gas line is bevlex. It is just stamped with keg connection PVC, so I may have more of a problem. So today, even after an overnight soak in pbw then starsan, there is still a pronounced rubber "taste" if I breathe in through this tube. My...

    WTF is this beer thing?

WTF is right. What is that thing - it maybe the coolest beer thing-a-ma-jig ever. I hope you now own this. How about some bigger pictures - if it is related to beer, I am sure one of the guys (or gals) will recognize it. Jason

How To Send In Water For Ward Labs Test

Henry, Big thanks for the info. It is ALWAYS helpful to offer guidence - with so many people reading on this board, you can always count on helping at least one person. I have been meaning to send my water off for testing for awhile. I had never seen the offered supplies. Even with your...

Beer line tests & solution to the "plastic" taste

Bump................ I was hoping to hear where people ended up with thier tubing solutions? Conpewter, Diablotastic, noisy123? Has anyone had luck with the tygon - if so were you using the chem resistant or the Ultra? Any good US sources for the Bev-seal? I also wanted to ask opinions...

    Don't fear the foam?

While the topic is up (again) I have to ask - I run the starsan thru my tubing by mouth siphoning - it definetly has a not-so-pleasent taste/flavor. How can this not affect the beer? I know, I know - 10,000 posts about it can't be wrong, but.... I still find it hard not do a small rinse to...

Lost 6 degrees in 1 hour mash

I haven't found any scrap pieces of thick foam yet (read: too cheap to buy a full sheet at HD) but I did take a large ziplock and filled it with some packing peanuts. Put that on top of the mash inside the cooler. Kept the loss to 1 deg over 60 min. Jason

Yummmmmmm, I just brewed this yesterday - my first all grain. It was a blast - even got a decent effeciency. It was so dark and rich - how do you guys know when to stop the Vorlauf - I couldn't see an inch into the runnings (oh lovely dark goodness). I just ran 6 qts back in, based on...
