Dip tube not picking up below valve

You need a hose from the ball valve that drops below the water level to where you are draining to.

    Boil Volume

Yes. For a 5gal batch you would need to brew with a total of 5gal + whatever volume will be boiled off. This appears to be assuming you will boil off .7 gal which is pretty normal. If you don't have enough capacity, you would do as much as you could fit without making a mess and then you can...

    BIAB Efficiency & Method

Heat ~ 7.9 gallons of water to 160'ish* F and add the bag and grains Mash for 1 hour (stirring every 10-15 minutes) at about 152*F Hang, drain, and moderately squeeze the bag over kettle while it heats to boil 60 Minute boil I get about 75% efficiency this way. More if I squeezed like hell...

Raise Your Hand If Your Wife Or Husband Is Responsible For Getting You Into Brewing

Yep. Like many others, Mr. Beer was my gateway drug. I'm sure when she was picking it out at Bed Bath and Beyond she didn't think that one day (today) I would stay home from work to take delivery of a chest freezer from Home Depot to control fermentation temps. :fro:

Current Mini Fridge for 6.5gal Carboy??

I hear that, the fridges on CL around me are way overpriced, and trying to get the to tell you the model number is a chore. I wound up buying a chest freezer for $200 from Home Depot after a few fridges I had my eye on fell through.

Anyone Using the GE 5.0 cu feet Chest Freezer FCM5SHWW

And is this model (FCM5SHWW) the replacement for the FCM5SUWW? I just bought it ($199 delivered) from Home Depot and it's being delivered next week. Want to be sure it will work as a fermentation chamber. I am only going to be fermenting 1 Ale Pail at a time so I have to imagine any 5 cu foot...

Current Mini Fridge for 6.5gal Carboy??

Yes, model # would be great. I am looking for a new mini fridge for a 6.5g bucket. I am scouring craigslist but the deals aren't there. Haggling people down to $100 for a 5 year old fridge isn't a good deal. :drunk:

Lots of electric lurking. Why so much BIAB?

Is this a tangential thought or are you making parallels to 3V vs BIAB? Because the only difference between the two is the mash process. Everything leading up to, and everything after the mash is the same.

Lots of electric lurking. Why so much BIAB?

I think the issue is that you are basing your opinion of the logical progression on your personal preferences. Many people have no desire to go multi-vessel and love to brew using the BIAB method. So they choose to build controllers for simple tasks, or more complex step mashes based on their...

    Request for Induction Equipment Information

OK, it's been a long time coming, but I updated the OP with more info from the thread. It's getting a little disorganized so not sure if moving it to the wiki may make more sense?
