    Electric Direct-Fired MLT

So if I only lose 3 gallons, that leaves me with 12.5 gallons of mash capacity. For me this would be plenty for my typical 5.5 gallon batches. Adding the additional sparge water to the HLT shouldn't be an issue. I fly sparge and see no reason why I would not be able to do the same with this...

    Electric Direct-Fired MLT

Just thinking "out loud" while I sit here planning my new system that I hope to start work on this spring. I will hopefully be able to move towards electric 15.5 gal keggles later this year and I am thinking about a "direct-fired" electric MLT. I think the whole key to this concept would be to...

    RIMS Build

Bump... Any feedback at all on how the on-demand hot water / RIMS is working out these days? I am still very interested in something like this provided it would allow my to get of of my HLT. Brewing space will soon be at a premium in my household and I'd love to here any thoughts about how...

    RIMS Build

Hey Sizz, How is the on-demand hot water working out now that ground temps are much colder. I've taken a lot of inspiration from your build because I like the RIMS circuit and compact form of your brewery. With your experience, do you think one could build a longer RIMS tube incorporating...

    Wanted: Half-Barrel Keg Shell

Looking for a couple half-barrel keg shells in the Greensboro, NC area (but could also make my way to Raleigh/Durham or Winston as well for the right deal). Shoot me a message if you have any you're looking to get rid of, or if you know where to source some locally and legally. I'm not...

    What are you drinking now?

Just finished a Victory Wild Devil...Interesting (and good), but not what I was expecting from a 100% Brett beer.

Steam injected into copper drain manifold...

    Is your manifold 1/2" copper?

I have had it with my Plate chiller.

Have you ever tried using a hop bag in your system to reduce trub? I use a Shirron and a hop bag in my boil kettle and have never had an issue with clogging. Yes, you will get few bits and pieces here and there, but nothing a hot soak in PBW won't take care of.

    Single Kettle AG Brewing

Poor efficiency definitely crossed my mind. I've worked too hard to get to where I am now to take a hit in that department. I've seen the BIB before, but it really doesn't interest me. Thanks for the input. Just trying to think of ways to get rid some equipment without sacrificing in...

    Single Kettle AG Brewing

Basicially, I want to dual purpose my 10g kettle as both an HTL and boil kettle. Let me see if I can adequately describe what I want to try, and see if anyone has tried it before, or if this idea just really sucks. Not getting into much detail, I want to scale down some equip and use a...

Did I get a bad bottle of Delirium Tremens?!?!

I had the same thing happen with a bottle I had about a week ago. It was, without question, not yeast. Based on my drinking and brewing experience it looked like cold break, but I doubt that is what is was. If it was yeast, it is unlike any that I have ever seen. It never settled, and...

    MY First BSDA this Weekend

Sacch, Thanks for the tips. I will definitely take your advice on the 90 min mash. As for efficiency, I get very consistent 85% - 87% extract efficiency with my MLT with single infusion, 45 min fly sparges. However, I will collect a larger amount of runnings for this batch and will probably...
