How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks Ed! I just ordered from midwest and when the package came without the dextrose I was furious at them for forgetting to package it. Then I looked at my bill and realized it was the purchaser's fault (me!)

    Man, I love Apfelwein

hey guys, I don't have any dextrose and there isn't any in this town... unless does anyone know if walmart has any? Is there anything I can use as a substitute? I just want to get this baby going! EDIT: The local health store says it has fructose. Will this work?

    First Hefe Weizen help.....

+1 to what mr stimey said. However, f you do decide to attach a blow-off you shouldn't need to remove the rubber grommet. My tubing (3/8 ID) just fits inside the rubber grommet, altough it takes a little force to get it in. I would assume yours should be similar. About the contamination...

    primary fermenter

So as I'm looking to expand (my first brew day was Sat. haha) what should I buy for another primary? My kit came with the "Ale Pail" and from what I've heard/seen around here, people have carboys. While I'd probably get another better bottle, what's the advantage of a carboy to a pail? While...

    Low initial hydrometer reading

Well dump it in I did, oop. Generally speaking when are the first signs that your batch is infected? EDIT: Nevermind guys. I'll just search for it, thanks anyhow!

    what happened?

rdwhahb... words to live by! I just gotta keep 'em in mind. I guess I just feel like I'm the dad driving his new baby home from the hospital, going 15 mph. Everytime I hit a bump I'm worried something went wrong. I had just never heard of bubbling stopping/slowing so soon but I guess every...

    what happened?

My plan was to use a blow-off tube until the aggressive fermentation was over and then switch to an airlock, as I could avoid a mess this way. Like I said this is my first batch so I'm not positive it's the right thing to do...

    what happened?

I put my first batch into primary yesterday afternoon. I came home early this morning (late last night) to find the blow off bubbling away. Sometime in the last couple hours it's stopped completely. I was going to put the airlock on when I realized that it wasn't going at all. Nothing like a...

    Low initial hydrometer reading

Alright, so I got home from a dinner formal I had tonight and to my suprise/delight I heard my blow off bubbling happily away. I did still in the malto-dextrin, figuring it couldn't hurt. After 15 min it started bubbling again in the blow-off. This makes me feel a bit better. I hope this...

    Low initial hydrometer reading

Ok, major buzz kill. I just realized I added the brown sugar... however I left out the malto-dextrin. My god am I learning disabled. (Insert multiple curses here). Is there anything I can do now? I'm guessing not and my beer just won't taste right. Damn am I bummed.

    Low initial hydrometer reading

It was a partial boil and I did just check the hydrometer. I did it in the tube it came in and I tried to keep it off the sides as best I could so near as I could tell it's reading alright, maybe just a bit on the low side. Sugar was added also!

    Low initial hydrometer reading

As of this afternoon my first brew is in primary (Scottish Light Ale). Whew, I feel like a cigarette! (kidding, I don't smoke) I do have a question however. The starting gravity measured low at 1.031 when the recipe says it should be 1.038-42. But I did take the reading after I aerated the...

    Hey All!

Good to hear from another on the frigid tundra! Are you enjoying this 45-50 degree weather as much as I am?! Haha. Anyhow, obviously Upnorth you're a little closer to the cities than I am but how long has it taken to get your orders from midwest? I ordered on Mon. and am hoping to get my...

    Hey All!

After looking around a bit I decided on a Scottish Light Ale kit from midwestsupplies.com. Can anyone attest if this is alright for a beginner?
