If I don't rack to secondary will I lose any volume. Also, my home brew store owner said when I rack to secondary, fill to five gallons with water. Any thoughts on this?

So I boiled my first batch. Brewers best extract iPa. Put it in the primary at 6pm last Saturday. Bubbler was working hard from Sunday night until yesterday(one bubble per second). Today I'm seeing one bubble about every 15 seconds. When should I rack into secondary? Thanks in advance

Have it in a plastic bucket. Was going to put it in a glass carboy after fermentation slowed and I was close to FG. Any thoughts?

Awesome! Thanks for the responses. Hope it turns out good. I was a little surprised how thick the wort was. Is it always really thick? I felt like it was difficult to poor into the fermenter without some of the trub getting in there. It kept blocking up my strainer. Hopefully it will settle out...

Just finished my first boil. Overall I think it went pretty well. Just have one question. OG was supposed to be between 1.065 and 1.061. There was quite a bit of foam at the top of my hydrometer tube so it was tough to see but I think OG was 1.060. Is that a problem?

Thanks for the advice. I have a bunch of bombers so bottling won't be to bad. If and when I start keging ill be back for more advice.

Does anyone recomend kegging over bottling for beginner home brewers? I have access to a commercial kegerator. Not sure what else i would need or how much i would have to spend. I have plenty of bottles. Any suggestions on what to do? I am planning on boiling my first extract batch in the next...

Thanks for the input. I will definitely be going to get some oxy clean. Can I wash before bottling day and then just sanitize, or should I wash now and then soak in oxy clean and sanitize on bottling day?
