What do I need to do with malted grain before I boil it with hops?

What do I need to do with malted grain before I boil it with hops?

The term "Condition" when referring to malt is a process hydrating the husks in order to make the husks of the grain pliable and lessens the chance of shattering the husk (more tannins). Using the process, the husks mainly stays in tack and this helps in creating the filter needed in lautering...

Working on a Milk Stout for Breastfeeding Wife

I misread that... I am just glad it is a Milk Stout "for" Breastfeeding Wife and not "From". People do odd things nowadays.... I find this thread very interesting though.

    I seriously doubt that.

    EVA + DuoTight + ... Picnic Tap?

Thanks for the information. I have tried several times and Morebeer has also helped but they still leak and I have the beer at only 8-12 PSI. I think I will go back to what works. Not all new things are improved things...

    EVA + DuoTight + ... Picnic Tap?

So, I am the only guy in the world that has nothing but bad luck with them? Close to 40% failure rate?

    EVA + DuoTight + ... Picnic Tap?

I avoid Duotight like the plague. They leak like crazy. I just got my new Komos V2 kegerator about a month ago. The unit had the EVA barrier and Duotight connectors. I also bought additional Duotight connectors. I have lost two complete CO2 canisters and I keep having to replace and reconnect...

I have well water and it comes in at 114 PPM. I have a GE brand RO System that fluctuates from 2-7 PPM... I have two Zero Water filters. Lastly , I have Brita filters (which I will never use again). If I run my well water through the RO system or the Zero water filters I get amazing water. But...

Any special considerations brewing with Pilsner malt?

I have two Grainfathers and neither one boils... at all, unless the lid is on which defeats the purpose of releasing DMS .... so, when using Pilsner malts, it is mandatory to try to boil minimum of 90 minutes, sometimes 120....

    UPS shipping - Damage claims

I purchased a pH meter from Amazon and it was for $148. Amazon sent it UPS Surepost. Under Surepost, the item is given to USPS for final delivery. The USPS carrier placed the item in a Parcel Locker, but gave the key to a neighbor who decided to keep it instead of being honest (typical...

I bought and brewed the Bourbon Barrel Porter from NB myself and found it terrible. But, I did not throw it away. I am glad I didn't because I opened one up a few weeks ago and damn!!!! it was great!

    Bottle Cost

That is incorrect... Bottles are among MANY exclusions to their Free Shipping. In fact, to reach $59 for normal free shipping you would have to buy 5 cases for a total of $69.95. Then you would have to add on an additional $40.70 (total of $110.65) for shipping to my location and that is the...

    Bottle Cost

Its not the cost of the bottles so much... It is the cost of the shipping. I can get a case from Morebeer for $14 and then $14 for shipping.. At that point it is almost the same as buying cheap disposable beer and keeping the bottles. I am not normally a Northern Brewer fan, but if you need 4...
