    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Just brewed this today with a combination of a few suggestions that I gathered. I used thebeerbrewer's hop schedule with 5oz of hops and added 3lbs of DME in the beginning of the boil and the rest at the end as I wanted to try a late extract addition. As far as ingrediants, my LHBS only had...

    immersion chiller question

Thanks guys-as i was in the middle of watching the stove i couldn't really reply but i ended up soaking and cleaning the chiller first in my cleaning solution then leaving it to dry. Then at about 20 minutes left, i hooked it up to my sink and ran hot water through it as I did a late extract...

    immersion chiller question

I'm brewing an IPA today and just had a question about my immersion chiller. I built it for my first batch and it was recommended that i put it in 15-20 minutes before the end of the boil to sanitize. I noticed that the copper cooled down the pot signifigantly when i put it in so i was...

    Just bottled first brew tonight!

I used 5oz of priming sugar boiled in a cup of water. Not sure how much of a difference it makes either way but i think for my next batch i'm gonna try out the carb tabs in the bottles. I figure that might give a more consistent carbonation and it's not really too expensive either...

My experience building an immersion chiller

yeah at the point when i kinked it i thought about cutting/soldering but i had a few kinks and it wasn't worth the time/effort to try and fix that one. As far as a pump, i'm sure you could get something fairly cheap at a pet store...

My experience building an immersion chiller

Before I brewed my first batch of beer, I already knew that I wanted a chiller. After seeing that my LHBS sold them for 99 bucks i knew there had to be a better way. I read up on a few tutorials I saw and quickly realized this thing would be easy to make. A trip to the home depot and I scored...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

gonna give this a shot tomorrow. I see that the fermentation temp listed is 60 degrees. I can either put this in the basement or upstairs-the basement stays between 57-60 and upstairs is between 68-72. Can anyone give me some advice on what my best bet would be?

    Just bottled first brew tonight!

yeah there's a few things out there (probably in skymall lol) that supposedly age wine rapidly. Like you pour it into a glass and then put this contraption into it and in a few minutes it's aged 5 years!

    Just bottled first brew tonight!

yeah... someone needs to invent a contraption you can put the bottles into and age them instantaly lol. oh well-i figure i'll give one a shot next week just to see how the carbonation is coming along and then wait another two weeks after that

    Greetings from North Jersey

nice-i was talking with Ryan a few weeks ago and he said that they're actually planning on running a home brew contest at some point and bringing in a brewery like brooklyn or blue point to judge it.

    Just bottled first brew tonight!

No real point to this thread-just bottled my first brew tonight-Irish Red Ale from Midwest that came with my kit. After a few minor mistakes, I think the beer came out fairly decent. My FG was 1.012 which is just about dead on according to the guidelines. It's a little hoppy now which i don't...

    Greetings from North Jersey

What's up guys? I've posted on here a few times but figured i might as well introduce myself. My name's Dan and i'm from North Jersey. I live near Paramus and work in Fairfield (near the willowbrook mall). I got a kit for my birthday (week before Christmas) and just bottled my first brew...

    considering going all grain

As far as price is concerned-consider this: yesterday i went to my LHBS and spent $36.00 on DME alone (7lbs). Since i was making an IPA it was an additional $20+ for the hops and then then another few bucks for crystal 40 and yeast. Taking a look online, grain costs not much more than $1/lb...

    Homebrew Kit...?

I recently got a kit from Midwest as well. I can't view the ebay link cuz it's blocked at work but this is the one i got: EVERYTHING + A CARBOY - Complete Brewing Package Equipment Kit #2 w/ Irish Red Ale :: Midwest Supplies Homebrewing and Winemaking Supplies Midwest seemed to have the best...

    2nd brew-first attempt with recipe...

...sam good point-no i do not plan on converting to LME but when I had glanced over the recipe quickly and thought it said LME. I guess because my first specialty grain recipe kit had LME in it. Though it is essentially the same process where I remove from heat before adding it. I"ve already...

    2nd brew-first attempt with recipe...

OK so I'll be bottling my first brew probably over the weekend and can't wait to start my second. I'd like to try a recipe rather than a kit because I feel it gives me a little more freedom to pick and choose. I think i've decided on the amarillo IPA based on some of the reviews and the ease...
