    stir plate help

I've got an adjustable regulator with a pot that I've got with a range from 4.5v-12v. I do not have anything mounted in my enclosure so i've played with a range a distances from the plate by just stacking cd cases...

    stir plate help

Ok-so I've read just about every thread out there and tried all the recommendations with no avail. I've built myself a stir plate and at best i can get a 1-2" funnel to appear in my 1 liter flask but for the most part, i keep throwing the magnet(s). I have a 1 5/8" stirbar Here is what i've...

    Wine cooler as lagering fridge?

True... i saw another thread on here where some guy was able to trick the fridge by placing the temp sensor in an area outside the fridge so it would think it's warmer than it really is. But that really wouldn't get me the control i want. We'll see-i figure since it's so cheap, i can stand to...

    Wine cooler as lagering fridge?

So I'm gonna be picking up a haier 20 bottle wine fridge in hopes of getting into some lagering. The thing has a built in digital thermostat with a range of 45-60 degrees F (score) so for 65 bucks i figured i couldn't go wrong. My question is-i see that some beers are lagered a temperatures as...

    All Amarillo IPA tonight!

Just pulled out a sample from my secondary to check the clarity and double check the FG. Beer is CRYSTAL clear after 2 weeks in the secondary and has a great taste and aroma thanks to dry hopping. Can't wait to get this bottled and carbed!

Steeping grains for a full boil

Gonna do my first full boil on Saturday with a Lemon Corriander Weiss from Midwest now that I picked up my turkey fryer. Here's my plan-just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with my thinking: Since I now have my original steel pot for the stove and now the turkey fryer, I'll steep the...

    My snow day project

Hammy...i think you're agreeing with me? That's what i did in this project-the heater has a built in temp dial... Soper-i've got a cheap plastic bucket too and i was thinking about the loss. I think that even something as simple as covering the entire container with a blanket might have a big...

    My snow day project

yeah-for me it was the fact that i wanted to do something cheap but effective. A controllable thermostat isn't gonna run much less than 50 bucks. Plus-water temperature tends to be more stable than air temp and less prone to sudden changes.

    What made you start brewing?

Bell- I'm pretty much the same way. I got into brewing because of a combination of curiosity, the desire to be self sufficient and the satisfaction of making something yourself. Oh yea...i love beer too. But i'll tell you what-since i started just before Christmas, it's become my new...

    My snow day project

Took a look out the window this morning and just couldn't bring myself to drive to work... So instead I spent some time coming up with something to help me better regulate my fermentation temp. I don't have a mini fridge yet nor would that do me much good as my basement stays between 59-63...

    Wireless digital thermometer

yeah...the min max feature gives me a good idea what place is the most stable (so far it's the basement holding at 59-61).

    Upgrading, is it worth it?

I just picked up a bayou classic turkey fryer from sports authority last weekend for 60 bucks. It's got a 30qt aluminum pot and a 55,000 btu burner. In any matter for cost effectiveness-if you do some shopping around, you should defintely be able to get a fryer for 50-60 if not less. I assume...

    Wireless digital thermometer

So i was wandering around my local sears hardware store at lunch today looking for a thermometer that i could put in my basement. I found this one on clearance there for 10 bucks: Springfield Instruments 91655 Wireless Thermometer with Hygrometer and Clock It's got a few pretty sweet...

    Is this mold?

DSrugis- If it makes you feel any better- I know what you're seeing-i've seen similar "anomalies" in my secondary carboy. If you look closely at them, they look nothing more than tiny air bubbles-possibly yeast floccuations as someone else noted. How long has your wort been in there for? You...

    Sanitation bucket question

Hah! despite what you may think-this really is the guy at the LHBS that gives me a hard time every time i go in there to buy Idophor claiming I'll make a mess of everything i touch and it's not worth it. Anyways-like i was saying and i'm sure you can agree-there really isn't any topic that...
