    How much do you drink?

Now this is an interesting thread for this site. My usual intake is 1-3 beers during the week and maybe 6-8 on fridays and Saturdays. I would say this isn't a lot for me though since I am 6'3" and about 260lbs. I am pretty athletic for my size though, I just started training to run my 4th...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Gonna make a RIS and then age it for 2 months on oak chips soaked in whiskey and vanilla beans. Really gonna test the new system with this grain bill.

    What are you drinking now?

Just finished a few of my roasted butternut squash maple pale ales. Just about perfect. Gonna have a few friends over who have been begging for this beer for a year to help me work on this keg.

Brew Year Resolution - 2012 Brewing Goals

I just don't mix socializing and brewing. My job requires me to be social with random strangers and when I get home I am usually worn out and just want alone time with my brew sculpture. My friends are into some good beer but I want some feedback from other brewers. I even get emails from a...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

My new guilty beer enthusiast confession is watching this thread. What a mess, this thing is like watching the real housewives of wherever. My favorite part is where weiz says something douchey and seems oblivious to his level of douchiness. Please keep it up this is incredibly entertaining.

How much did you spend on brewing in 2011?

Built a Brutus 10 setup and brewed around 30 5-gallon batches...so I will just say a lot. I got a ton of gift cards for Xmas and bought the rest of the brewing gadgets I had been wanting, so hopefully this year I will be spending a lot less.

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

If you have ever done a hard days work usually the last thing you want is a barrel aged stout or an imperial IPA. I understand that some people have the luxury of never having to drink a cheap beer, but believe it or not there are times when a cheap beer is preferred. When I play disc golf I...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

When I finish mowing the yard and it is incredibly hot outside, an American light lager is one of the most refreshing things in the world. I believe the reason American light lager is such a huge hit with the blue collar set is because it really tastes great after hard work. IMHO there is...

Brew Year Resolution - 2012 Brewing Goals

    1. Enter a competition 2. Go to a homebrew club meeting I am an antisocial brewer and most feedback comes from friends who don't really have trained palates. I figure this is the year to break out and see if my brew is really as good as I think it is.

    mash temp

If your temp is consistently lower by a specific amount, increase your strike water by that amount and you should hit your desired temp every time.

    mash temp

If you don't want to preheat the mash tun, just heat your strike water a few degrees warmer and figure out the correction factor to get the right mash temp. I had this problem when overestimating my grain temp using brewpal on my iPhone.
