    next book to read?

No book improved my brewing more than Radical Brewing by randy mosher. It really got me to think about brewing and ingredients differently. It is also a really interesting read.

    Overshot my temp

So I am still dialing in my new brewstand and I wanted to really push the limits. I was making a RIS and had a 21lb grain bill in my mash tun when I made a few errors. First off I didn't heat my strike water enough and when I doughed in my temp was like 130ish, this wasn't a big deal since I...

Help me with my pallet- examples of MALTY beers?

Claymore ale by great divide is a good wee heavy that has a rich malty taste, celebrator, optimator and salvator are great doppelbocks with malty flavor. With each of those doppelbocks you get a nice rich (sweet) flavor that isn't cloying, but each one has a different level of roastiness...

My first brew of 2012 is a drainpour...

Coveralls! I can't believe I never thought of that! I am going out right now to get some. I used to work in a manufacturing plant and I always thought the old guys who wore the one piece Dickies jumper (with the belt sewn own) looked like total bad@sses. I see a rapid improvement in my beer...

    East coast vs West coast

Represent for Argonaut! Every time we go to GABF we load the car down with everything that we can't get in OK and stock the 'cellar.'

    I Never Take Measurements

Personally, the only time I take readings is when I am upgrading/changing my system (which has happened several times) and I want to get things dialed in. Once I am consistent with my gravities it is less important for me to take readings. I also take few notes and usually don't repeat...

    East coast vs West coast

As a person who lives in one of the most frustrating beer areas in America (oklahoma), I thought I could weigh in on this subject from a very non-biased perspective. My personal opinion/observation is that the west cost has a severe hop obsession that ruins a lot of beer. Beers from the east...

    What's your profession?

Physical therapist at a rehab hospital. Main reason I built my Brutus stand was cause I want to brew my whole life and not destroy my back like a lot of the patients I work with.

    Big Woops

I think this is why the best brewing advice is Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew. No matter how much attention you pay you always screw up at some point.

    How much do you drink?

Forgot to add that I never drink without food and always finish the night with a large glass of water, this keeps me from feeling bad in the am.
