    Hops are rising !

Well, I freaked out a bit and decided to take action. I sanitized some cheese cloth in BTF, took the carboy out and removed the airlock (placeing it in sanitizing solution), then wrapped the cheese cloth around the top and pour a bit of the beer out to make some room. A bit of a risk (exposing...

    Hops are rising !

So I racked my APA into the secondary and then placed it in the closet. I then thought, Oh yeah, I was going to dry hop it. So, I sprinkled about 1/2 oz of cascade hops on top. There wasn't a whole lot of room at the top of the carboy mind you. They have expanded. Its been one night and...

    Thin APA?

So its been 5 days in the PF and fermentation has slowed to 1 min intervals. I decided to try just a wee bit and my first impression was that it tasted a bit like really hoppy watery beer or just really thin beer...I could be mistaken though, I only had a tiny taste...heres was my final recipe...

    Northern Brewer

I ordered from them last week. Pros: Fast shipping. Good packaging. Relatively good supply. Cons: A pound of Honey Malt that I ordered was missing. I called them and told them: Hey man, whats up with the missing Honey Malt? They said this kind of thing was rare. I told them this set the brew...

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

Yeah, I'm skippin on the ice packs. I'm making mine this weekend so I'll be sure to take some detailed pics and post them on the forum...maybe even with some directions for people lookin into it. I found the orginal directions by the creator to be a bit disorganized. There isnt a list of items...

    Flavor Hops....In or Out?

I toss mine in. Recipatator (google it) lowers their AA yeild when you specify that you're using a hop bag. I like to see the hops flow smoothly throughout the boiling wort.

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

Well, I went to rashioshack and blew 40 bucks on a fan, ac-dc adapter, electrical tape, and butt connectors (apparently I have to cut the wires coming out of the ac adapter to twist them to the fan. The radioshack guy thought that it would be a fire hazard to have them sitting out--thus the...

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

I'm currently searching for chiller parts and it needs a 12-volt DC adapter. Would "12VDC 200 MA WALL TRANSFORMER" be the same thing? I'm looking on All Electronics and Jameco. I'm getting alittle confused...the chiller instructions don't specify the full names of electronics. Thanks...Also...

    Brewing Name...opinions

Haha thats pretty good...where could I go with that? Zed Lupulin Brewing Co? Maybe to emphasize the absurdity of it all I could go with Zedlius Lupulus ...the 3-letter thing looks too commercial/corporate...What do you guys think of Zed Lupulin? Or maybe... Lupulin Zed? :fro:

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

Well..for some reason I kept thinking that you need to buy a bag of ice and place it in containers haha :drunk: but at the end of the "Son of Fermentation Chiller" instructions it says that using bleach jugs are extra durable and you can just filll em up, freeze em and you have solid ice man...

5 gal recipe to 2.5 gal

Thats exactly it though. Its completely symbolic of Christmas--you like it and it lasts only a day. I would really only like to be drinking Christmas Ale during the season. After Christmas I'll be eagerly eyeing new recipes. But hey, when am I not? :mug: Thanks for the inputs guys--real helpful

Yeah I thought about that too. When you say ice blocks...what do you mean? Like frozen water bottles?

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

Yeah totally, lets keep this thread going. Any real experience or observations is the best. I plan on making one pretty soon so I will take notes and report back. Any things to look out for in the construction process?

5 gal recipe to 2.5 gal

Haha, I dont know...I'm kind of intimidated to give them to people who don't know about bottle fermentation and good beers in general...they need me to hold their hand while they do it, not open a box and surprise your own your own. They'll end up with a stomach full of yeast and an excess in...

5 gal recipe to 2.5 gal

I am planning on making a christmas ale but I think 50 bottles is way too much. How do you perfectly scale down a 5 gal recipe to like 2.5 gal? Thanks

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

That is all true--if your already own a fridge. Building a fermentation chiller is cheaper than buying a fridge (used or new) and a temp. controller. Plus, it doesnt take up the large space that a fridge does and it also doesn't consume as much energy. One of the things I love about homebrewing...

    Son of Fermantion Chiller

Oh yeah, I think I remember you or someone talking about this when I searched the forum. So you would basically have a mini-fridge plugged in and running but removing the door and attaching the fermentation chiller minus the ice chambers. Thus, the cooling air of the mini-fridge would be...
